What Is 'Cashero' on Netflix? Know All About the Peculiar Superhero Story From Korea

Published 12/14/2025, 4:00 PM EST

Netflix’s Korean library has become synonymous with emotionally charged storytelling. Especially its romance-driven series that have found global audiences. From the heartfelt chemistry of Crash Landing on You and Twenty-Five Twenty-One to the blend of love and ambition in Business Proposal and Romance Is a Bonus Book, viewers have come to expect stories where feelings drive the characters.

Even when these shows cross into fantasy or mystery, the emotional core often revolves around love, relationships, and personal drama. In 2025 alone, Netflix’s Korean slate spanned from tender romances to psychological thrillers and legal dramas, reinforcing its reputation for emotionally driven narratives.

But a new title arriving this December signals a departure from that familiar formula. One that could expand how global audiences define 'K-drama' on Netflix.

What is Cashero all about and where can you watch it?

Cashero is a superhero series coming exclusively to Netflix on December 26, 2025. Its arrival will mark one of the platform’s most ambitious genre experiments yet. Unlike most Korean originals on Netflix, this series focuses squarely on action, comedy, and a peculiarly grounded take on superpowers.

Directed by Lee Chang-min and co-written by Lee Jae-in and Jeon Chan-ho, Cashero is based on a popular Korean webtoon of the same name.

The plot centers on Kang Sang-woong, an everyday civil servant who suddenly gains superhuman strength. But here is the catch. His strengths work only as long as he has cash on hand. Every punch, leap, or heroic act literally drains his wallet, forcing him to decide between his own financial survival and helping others.

The series stars Lee Jun-ho, who is best known for roles in King the Land and The Red Sleeve, as Sang-woong. And Kim Hye-jun is cast as his highly analytical girlfriend Kim Min-sook. The series also has Kim Byung-chul as the alcohol-powered lawyer Byeon Ho-in.

According to Cashero’s official Netflix listing, the show will stream globally only on Netflix, meaning viewers will need an active subscription to watch it upon release.

Is Cashero an unlikely Korean superhero story

What makes Cashero feel so different from Netflix’s recent Korean hits is not just its genre, but its thematic ambition. Even though the K-dramas have been silently rewriting the romance genre, Netflix has really taken a step back with this superhero movie.

Traditionally, Netflix’s Korean hits like My Liberation Notes explored personal freedom through introspective drama. Another example is Love to Hate You and how it leaned into romantic comedy. One can even take darker titles like Squid Game that are grounded in social commentary.

By the looks of it, Cashero is different. It blends superhero action with real-world concerns. It also explores economic pressure, practicality, and heroism in everyday life using its unusual premise. The idea that power and money are literally linked upends typical genre logic. This stands in stark contrast to Western superhero norms.
