After much anticipation, we received the Harry & Meghan documentary in two parts on Netflix. The first part was released on the 8th of December and was mostly overtaken by loved-up pictures of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. Apart from the usual hinting at the discrimination they faced in the royal family, the first part does not offer much besides stunning pictures of Harry and Meghan’s love story.

The second part that dropped on the 15th of December has truly given fans some meat to stick their teeth into. As a whole, the Harry & Meghan Netflix documentary is a justification for the ‘Megxit’ they took from home. And here is what you need to take home from the documentary.

Netflix does not flip the coin in the Harry & Meghan documentary

This documentary is unlike any other that has been released on the streaming giant. And we do not say this in the context of two former royals telling their story and shading the Royal family. This documentary is based on Meghan Markle’s and Prince Harry’s points of view. And at no point in time of the almost six-hour run time of the documentary do we see a fact check.

While we are sure that we have an anti-Meghan Markle and Prince Harry group on Twitter to do that, it is not the usual thorough research format that Netflix follows. In case you were looking for the ‘truth’, you will find some parts of it here but will have to wait for more.

It is sunny in California!

The documentary creates a stark contrast between Harry and Meghan’s life in the UK with that in the United States and Canada. Everything from the music to the lighting shifts to a darker theme when the couple recalls their stifling time with the Royal family.

This was a jab at those who claimed that Harry and Meghan were miserable. Shots of the couple on a beach, doing Yoga in a much more warm California, are often played right after those in the cold United Kingdom.

The conclusion being, Harry & Meghan are flourishing with or without the royal family. In case you haven’t noticed, the ‘former royal’ tag works just as great as the ‘royal’ tag.

Harry & Meghan: Not like your other fairytales

When Prince Charles married Diana, people saw it as a fairytale. A girl of their kind who became a Princess. This played brilliantly with the fact that Lady Diana was truly the People’s Princess, down to her core. Her story, although unfolded to be a tragedy, was earlier synonymous with ‘Fairytale’ not just in Britain but all around. This more or less also happened with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. Seeing Meghan Markle, a biracial American actress become Harry’s bride, was not short of a fairytale.

What unfolded after was anything but. As mentioned earlier, this may be Harry and Meghan’s version of the truth, but the fact that Markle had suicidal thoughts and that Prince Harry has yet to cope with his mother’s death is truly saddening.

Adding to that is the fact that Markle’s depression was around the same time Prince Harry was working on a mental health campaign. Mental well-being is better practiced than preached.

Harry and Prince William may never be thick as thieves again

Harry & Meghan became a massive multi-million dollar Netflix documentary. But what about Harry & William? In the documentary, as gentle as he may seem, the spite in Harry’s voice as he speaks of his brother and father is unmissable. If there was one thing that Harry made clear after the Megxit is that he is on his mother’s side. Harry says that the two boys agreed long back to never treat each other the same way their father treated their mother.

More specifically, how he had a team that briefed him of her every moment. And if Harry’s anger is anything to go by, Prince William may have broken the pact. The two brothers are likely to never be close again. Bringing us back to the point that Harry may have left for Meghan Markle and freedom, but he left because of the Royal family.
