'Unfamiliar' Season 2: Will the Exciting Netflix Spy Thriller Return for Another Run?
Two former spies, now married and living a quiet life, soon find the horrors of their past knocking at their door in Netflix’s Unfamiliar. The show, packed with espionage, mystery, family secrets, lies, and betrayals, quickly hooked viewers across multiple countries after its arrival on February 5, 2026. It soon climbed to become the seventh most-watched series on the streaming service in the United States.
But clearly, six episodes of the German spy thriller simply are not enough. With the show’s ending leaving room for the characters to return, the story feels far from over. So, is Unfamiliar returning for season 2?

Unfamiliar, which follows former intelligence agents Simon and Meret, dropped six gripping episodes, each nearly an hour of tense thrills. But the story came to a bizarre end with both characters arrested and behind bars. While the finale hinted that this chapter may not be closed, Netflix has not yet renewed Unfamiliar for Season 2.
However, there is still hope for season 2, considering its immense success not just in the U.S., but in several other countries as well. The series is performing well ahead of Mike Epps: Delusional and the hit comedy Free Bert in the U.S., and is currently trending across nine countries. It has already entered Netflix’s Top 10 in nations like Poland, Portugal, Vietnam, and Slovenia.
If the show continues its strong run and eventually breaks into the global list of most-watched TV shows on Netflix, there will be hopes for it to return for a second season.
Now, while spy thrillers such as The Night Agent and Black Doves have long been popular with audiences, the plot of Unfamiliar feels refreshingly dramatic and thrilling, maintaining suspense right until the very end. This is exactly what intrigued the fans.
