According to Deadline, Millie Bobby Brown has recruited Academy Award winner Tom Hooper to direct the film adaptation of her bestselling novel, Nineteen Steps, for Netflix. This collaboration brings together a legendary filmmaker and a modern icon for a period piece. The project remains in active development with a focus on historical accuracy. The screenplay is being crafted by Anthony McCarten, a four-time Oscar nominee known for his work on Bohemian Rhapsody and The Theory of Everything.

Brown will produce the feature alongside her husband, Jake Bongiovi, and her father, Bobby Brown. This family-led production ensures the heart of the story remains protected throughout the cinematic process.

The novel Nineteen Steps draws inspiration from the real-life experiences of Millie Bobby Brown's grandmother during World War II. Set in the East London neighborhood of Bethnal Green, the story follows eighteen-year-old Nellie Morris. She must navigate the daily perils of air raids and rationing while falling for an American airman.

At the center of the plot is the Bethnal Green Tube disaster, a devastating event where 173 civilians perished in a crush. This historical tragedy serves as a poignant backdrop for the emotional journey of the protagonist. The film promises to honor the resilience of those who survived the worst civilian disaster in the United Kingdom.
