James’ Fifty Shades Darker. Any addition to the Grey franchise was welcomed with cheers and the idea of one with the likes of Henry Cavill starring as Christian Grey had fans drooling.

The movie has since then been released to a massive box office collection of $380 million worldwide against its considerably modest budget of $55 million and no sight of Henry Cavill. However, it is still amusing how the promotion of The Man from U.N.C.L.E turned into a full-fledged press tour of Fifty Shades Darker owing to Henry Cavill.

Fans still find themselves wondering what could have happened had Henry Cavill made it to the final cut of Twilight and Harry Potter: Goblet of Fire. But alas, it never happened. And the supposed curse followed Cavill to Fifty Shades Darker. As the actor promoted his intriguing thriller The Man from U.N.C.L.E in 2015, fans were convinced that he will be appearing as Christian Grey in the Fifty Shades franchise. And Cavill was to be blamed for it. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Cavill put on the most suspicious smirk when asked if he would star in the erotic thriller. To further raise eyebrows, he said, “I think it’s probably best that I say nothing for now.”

The actor was promoting his movie alongside Armie Hammer, who simply could not stop chuckling as Cavill was asked about it. He even encouraged the actor to take on the movie if he already had not. Owing to moments like these, the expectations of Cavill appearing in the next installment of the Fifty Shades movie grew bigger.

Did the Superman actor reject the role?
For all the noise that erupted, it is quite shocking to see that there had never been an official statement regarding the creators looking at Henry Cavill as their Christian Grey. The rumor was swiftly riding on the dreams of fans who wanted to see him in a role that demanded just as much emotional investment as it did physical.

However, Jamie Dornan was destined to play Christian Gray and so he did for the rest of the franchise while Cavill continued as Superman. An interesting point to note is that Dornan lost Superman to Cavill years ago and he would not allow himself to lose another astounding role to the actor.
