Temperatures are set to rise on Netflix with its newest Korean drama, The Scandal. Set in the Joseon era, where personal desires are often kept hidden, ambitious individuals find themselves drawn into a dangerous and daring game that challenges the rules of that era. What follows is a tangled web of desire, deception, and deceit.

Based on Pierre Choderlos de Laclos’ famous 1782 novel Dangerous Liaisons, the series is set to premiere on this, joining the lineup of Korean dramas on Netflix. 

But before the show arrives, here is everything to know about its cast, plot, and release date.

Son Ye-jin as Lady Cho: Son Ye-jin is well known for her role as Yoon Se-ri in Netflix’s hit drama Crash Landing on You. She previously starred in Something in the Rain and A Moment to Remember. The actress also starred in Park Chan-wook’s No Other Choice, which received a standing ovation at the Venice Film Festival in Italy.

Ji Chang-wook as Cho Won: Ji Chang-wook most recently appeared in the film Colony. He previously starred in The Manipulated, Suspicious Partner, The K2, and The Worst of Evil. 

NANA as Hui-yeon: NANA is a former member of the South Korean girl group After School. She has previously starred in Omniscient Reader: The Prophecy, The Swindlers, The Good Wife, Into the Ring, and Glitch.

Now, while the star-studded cast of the show is impressive, the story is just as compelling. 

Set in Joseon-era Korea, The Scandal follows three people who get drawn into a dangerous game of desire, temptation, and deceit. The story begins with an extraordinary noblewoman, Lady Cho, portrayed by Son Ye-jin, who proposes a risky wager to Cho Won, played by Ji Chang-wook. While Cho Won accepts the challenge, their risky wager drags a young widow, Hui-yeon, played by N into the drama and deceit. 

Soon, their risky wager tangles as hidden motives and forbidden desires collide. The series is inspired by the 2003 Korean film Untold Scandal. Both are Korean takes on Pierre Choderlos de Laclos’ French novel Dangerous Liaisons. While the cast and plot of the story are revealed, when can fans expect the series on screen?

The Scandal is set to premiere on September 18, 2026. The series is an eight-episode series packed with drama, romance, and scandal, set in Joseon-era Korea. The teaser for the series is out, and it hints at rising tensions as Cho Won pursues Hui-yeon while Lady Cho watches from the shadows. With everything at stake, the wager threatens to have devastating consequences for all three of them.
