And yet that does not stop the ambitious characters in Netflix’s The Scandal from seeking their desires. And that begins the trouble, as each character gets pulled into a dangerous and complicated web of deceit, temptation, and hidden motives.

Son Ye-jin as Lady Cho: Son Ye-jin is best known for her role as Yoon Se-ri in Netflix’s hit drama Crash Landing on You. She recently starred in Park Chan-wook’s No Other Choice. She is also known for her roles in Something in the Rain and A Moment to Remember. In Netflix's The Scandal, she played the role of a virtuous noblewoman who suggests a risky wager that is only the beginning of more trouble.
Ji Chang-wook as Cho Won: Ji Chang-wook is well known for his roles in The Manipulated, Suspicious Partner, The K2, and The Worst of Evil. He recently starred in the zombie film Colony. He is playing the role of Joseon’s playboy, Cho Won, in The Scandal.

NANA as Hui-yeon: NANA is a famed actress, singer, and model. She is well known for her roles in The Good Wife, Into the Ring, and Glitch. She also starred in The Swindlers and Confession. She recently starred in the 2025 film Omniscient Reader: The Prophecy.
While the streaming giant is yet to reveal the rest of the cast, fans are intrigued by the plot of the show. The series follows Lady Cho, who proposes a risky wager to Cho Won, and their game also pulls Hui-yeon into a dangerous game of deceit and temptation. Directed by Jung Ji-woo, the period drama brings a risky wager that challenges the norms around love and relationships.
While The Scandal will bring a refreshing new cast, the series is based on a famous novel.
The Scandal is based on a 1782 novel
The Scandal is inspired by the 2003 Korean film Untold Scandal. The movie itself was adapted from Pierre Choderlos de Laclos’ classic French novel Dangerous Liaisons. The novel has also inspired several other adaptations, including Stephen Frears’ 1988 film Dangerous Liaisons and Miloš Forman’s 1989 Valmont.

As for the Korean drama, The Scandal gives the familiar tale a modern narrative while retaining the heart of the original story of desire and deception. The series, which will feature eight episodes, is set to premiere on September 18, 2026. This promises to become one of the best Korean shows of this year on the streaming platform.
