Netflix's War Machine, starring Alan Ritchson, found tremendous global fan following and quickly became one of the streamer's most-watched films. According to the streamer, War Machine received 146.9 million views, or 266.8 million hours on the platform. The movie quickly rose to the top of Netflix's most-watched movie list following its launch in the first half of 2026. Furthermore, it is now ranked #9 on Netflix's list of the Top 10 Most-Watched Films of All Time.  

The popularity of the movie around the world has everyone questioning the sequel plans of Netflix’s sci-fi thriller. 

For quite some time now, there have only been talks of a sequel in the pipeline for the hit Netflix movie War Machine. Netflix never officially confirmed it, and it still has not. It was from another important member related to the film who made it official. The sequel was confirmed through the title announcement by director Patrick Hughes via Instagram.

Patrick Hughes uploaded a post on Instagram on July 20, showcasing the new list of Top 10 Most Watched Movies, which placed War Machine at #1 with 147 million views. The RIP with 136 million views came next, followed by Swapped with 131 million views on #3, KPop Demon Hunters on #4, and Charlize Theron's Apex with 129 million views on #5.

The same Instagram post showed many photographs, of which the second one was the first page of the script, where fans can read: “WAR MACHINES. Written by: Patrick Hughes & James Beaufort.” Following that, the third picture concentrated on “MACHINES,” and the next picture after that focused on “S,” along with the last picture with a more closed emphasis on “S,” foreshadowing the title and what it might entail for the second installment.

Now that the sequel has been confirmed, people are already curious about what to expect from the upcoming installment. 

The planned War Machine sequel is anticipated to be on a much wider scale, coupled with "Operation Global Shield," in comparison to the first one, which had a tiny force battling an extraterrestrial robot. Director Patrick Hughes and co-writer James Beaufort will return for the second installment as well. Most obviously, Alan Ritchson will be reprising his role as Sergeant “81”. However, the sequel might take its sweet time to be ready for streaming, considering the production has not yet begun.    

In the meantime, Alan Ritchson will appear in Prime Video's action thriller series Reacher season 4, which is scheduled to debut on August 12. The show's spin-off series Neagley, which is scheduled to debut on September 16, will also include him. Runner, Motor City, Playdate, The Man With The Bag, and other ventures are among Ritchson's other endeavors. The actor is presently working on Maelstrom, another much-awaited production.
