Courtroom dramas have always been uniquely addictive because they delve deep into our primal desire for justice. When executed neatly, they turn a normal courtroom into a battlefield where the right words can destroy or save a life.

The genre thrives on tension, and audiences feel like they are a part of the jury who are continuously weighing the evidence along with the characters on the screen. If there is one courtroom drama that has mastered this formula, it is Netflix's The Lincoln Lawyer, and with Season 4, it raises the stakes further.

Based on Michael Connelly's novel The Law of Innocence, the fourth season finds Mickey Haller in a precarious situation. The lawyer who once fought for others is now being forced to fight for his own freedom. Season 3 ended on a massive cliffhanger when a patrol officer found Sam Scales' dead body inside the trunk of Haller's vehicle, and the latest season does not waste any time in showing us what happened afterwards.

As the story progresses, Haller finds himself buried in a deeper conspiracy, making him realize that Scales' mu---- was just the tip of the iceberg. He was being framed by someone really powerful, and wanted the lawyer to suffer. So, did Haller manage to prove his innocence, or did he finally meet a case he could not escape?

The Lincoln Lawyer Season 4 Ending Explained: Did Haller Get Out of Prison?

At the beginning of The Lincoln Lawyer season 4, Haller's team is trying to figure out who framed him for the mu--- of Sam Scales. Unfortunately, the clock is ticking, and they are unable to find that person. Haller knew it would not be easy for him and his team to uncover the truth because Scales was a con man with multiple identities.

As a result, it was difficult for them to figure out who could have killed Scales. The first hearing sees Haller fumbling a little as soon as he sees his daughter, Hayley, inside the courtroom. Initially, they wanted to discuss bail during the hearing, but as soon as he saw her, he decided not to argue about it.

When Lorna confronted him, he said he just did not want to get free; he wanted to get his reputation back. As a result, he would only ask for bail when the case would be strong enough.

Lorna and Cisco continue to work on the case, trying to find out what was happening. In the meantime, the prosecution has changed its lawyer, and now, Dana Berg will be fighting the case against Haller. For a moment, Haller and Lorna get really worried when they see her in the court. Why? Because her nickname is 'Death Row' Dana, and she is known for doing anything and everything to win her cases.

Consequently, when Haller and his team investigate the body cam footage and dash cam footage of the officer who pulled Haller that night, they see something disturbing. Before the officer started following the lawyer, he received a text message and put his vehicle in gear as soon as he saw Haller coming out of a building.

The clip makes them realize that the police officer was waiting for him to come out and follow him, even when he did not know whether his license plate was present or not. During the next hearing, they questioned Officer Collins about what happened that night, and Haller wanted to show the video inside the court. Shockingly, Haller decides not to show the clip at this moment, and Lorna is in disbelief.

This could have turned the tables enough for Haller to get an edge. Despite all this, Haller manages to receive bail after he proves to the court that the prosecution was listening to his phone calls from prison.

But there is a lot of work to do, and Haller does not want to waste any day. After reviewing more and more evidence, the team realizes that Scales had a wallet in his pocket, which is nowhere to be seen in the property list, and when they ask the investigator about the same, he replies that they did not find any wallet, which makes Haller very furious.

While they continue to look more closely, they find out that Scales' bicycle had some sort of biofuel on the tyres, and upon searching, it was found that he was working with a company named Biogreen. However, when the team starts investigating the company, the authorities stop them from doing so.

Despite all the hurdles, they find a crucial piece of evidence and realize that Biogreen was being run by Alex Gazarian. Does that name ring a bell? He is the same person who lost his Olympic contract because Haller exposed him in court.

Haller believes that Gazarian is behind all of this and wants to get him alive. Sadly, they could not do that, and Gazarian died mysteriously. Luckily, Cisco manages to get her hands on Gazarian's girlfriend, Jeanine Ferrigno, and brings her to a safe location, where she reveals everything to Maggie, Haller’s ex-wife, who has taken over the case from Lorna.

In the meantime, Ruth meets Haller and tells him that Scales was working with the FBI to expose Gazarian’s business, but Gazarian found out, leading to Scales’ death.

After learning everything, Haller formulates an idea and tells Ruth that they will give Jeanine's location to the FBI if they withdraw the false case against him. The next day, in the court, the FBI stops the defense from letting Jeanine take the stand, and the DA strikes a deal with Haller and Maggie.

But Haller did not just want to be free; he wanted his life back. As a result, he demanded a statement from the DA's office, saying that they are withdrawing the case. They accepted the deal, and Haller was FREE!!!!

The Lincoln Lawyer Season 4 ending explained: Who killed Sam Scales?

When Daw Ruth met Mickey Haller, she told him everything about the FBI's operations. The FBI knew Gazarian was scamming the government; in other words, he was trying to 'bleed the beast.' They planted Scales so that they can get the information. However, Scales was a con man and decided to play a little game himself. While Gazarian was scamming the government, Scales was scamming Gazarian.

Initially, no one found out about it. However, Gazarian realized that his company was bearing losses, and when he got to know what Scales was doing, he ki---- him. To make matters worse for Haller, he hid the body inside his vehicle's trunk. Ruth told Haller that their plan cannot come out to the public, or else, the investigation will be ruined.

Meanwhile, Jeanine tells the same to Maggie and makes her realize that Gazarian's own family ki---- him. Now, she is worried for her life as well. Fortunately, she does not die, and Haller tells Ruth about her location.

The Lincoln Lawyer Season 4 Ending Explained: Who is Haller's Sister?

After getting out of prison, he takes his Lincoln and drives around the city. He wanted to take a vacation and get away from all the chaos. In the evening, he goes to a grocery store to buy some vegetables for a pasta recipe he wants to try. There, he meets a woman who manages to get his attention, but he does not talk to her and leaves the store.

The woman follows her and saves him from an attack. Ruth and her team reach the location to shoot the guy who was trying to attack Haller. He thanked Ruth for watching over him and also thanked the woman for saving her life. However, things take a surprising turn when the woman tells Haller that he is her SISTER! (played by Cobie Smulders). Haller could not believe what he was hearing, and once again, The Lincoln Lawyer ends on a massive cliffhanger.

The show has already been renewed for Season 5, which means the next edition will primarily focus on the step-siblings. It would be interesting to see how the makers would move ahead with the storyline. Although there is no official confirmation about him having a sister, it is reported that Haller has three older half-sisters and one half-brother, who is none other than Harry Bosch. Yes, the main protagonist of Bosch.

Both characters, Mickey Haller and Harry Bosch, are created by Michael Connelly, and fans will be expecting these two characters to meet each other at some point in time. Maybe introducing his sister is the beginning of something bigger. I cannot wait to see where it leads and how Haller deals with this situation. Till then, enjoy Season 4 because it is worth watching.
