Wagner Moura is hopeful about a potential sequel for The Last House. Netflix has continued to expand its thriller-survival slate with new shows and movies from time to time. After Nowhere, Apex, and Outlast, the streaming giant returned with The Last House. The film quickly became a hit, landing at No. 1 on Netflix’s global viewership chart. It brought a tense, raw survival story as a family of four struggles against all odds to stay alive.

The ending of the film has also sparked curiosity about whether the film could return for a sequel.

As it turns out, Moura, who starred in the film, shares the same sentiment. 

Wagner Moura, who starred in The Last House, recently spoke with ScreenRant about the Netflix movie. When asked about the possibility of a sequel, the actor admitted that he is not sure whether another installment would happen. However, he expressed his interest in returning if he gets the opportunity.

“But despite there being no confirmation of a second installment, the actor is hopeful and willing to reprise his role if the opportunity arises,” ScreenRant wrote about Moura’s comment.

The ending of The Last House also leaves plenty of room for a potential sequel. Throughout the movie, the family struggles to survive after their home is sealed off following a mysterious event. By the end, they are able to escape and are leaving on a boat. The next scene shows the family sending out a distress call over the radio.

They hear a voice respond with a simple “hello,” and this explains that they are not the only survivors. So, although there is no official update yet, as Moura shared with ScreenRant, the potential for a sequel to Louis Leterrier’s The Last House is not entirely bleak.

Amid chatter on a sequel, viewers have continued to debate some of the film’s most crucial moments. One of them is the scene in which Wagner Moura’s character decides not to k*** the creature. Moura himself has opened up about the reason behind his character’s decision.

One of the most crucial moments in The Last House comes after the family successfully captures the creature. Wagner Moura’s character, Jason, is moments away from k****** it when he listens to his daughter's advice, drops the knife, and ultimately frees the creature. During his interview with ScreenRant, Moura opened up about the thought behind Jason’s decision. 

"His daughter is always telling him something, and he doesn't listen to her," he said.

"And I was like, 'Man, we really have to listen to everybody, but especially to our kids.' What she said since the beginning was right. She was right. And the decision, therefore, I think the decision was, of course, first of all, he's not killing anyone. And secondly, he listened to her," Wagner explained. 

Moura stars alongside Greta Lee, who plays Ann. Riley Chung portrays the younger version of Ruth, while Emma Ho and Arden Cho play her older parts. Noah Alexander Sosnowski and Gabriel Barbosa play the younger and older versions of Graham, respectively. While fans will be keeping a close eye out for any updates on a sequel, The Last House is currently streaming on Netflix, with plenty of reasons to stay glued to the screen until the very end.
