The Great Flood on Netflix — Cast, premise, & production details

The Great Flood is a science fiction disaster film from South Korea, directed and co-written by Kim Byung-woo, famed for The Terror Live. The gripping thriller first screened in the Korean Cinema Today - Special Premiere section at the 30th Busan International Film Festival on September 18, 2025. Netflix acquired it as a global original in 2023, while its production began in July 2022 at Hwansang Studios. 

Kim Da-mi (Itaewon Class, Our Beloved Summer) delivers a strong leading performance, showcasing the emotive nuances of parents' resilience in a very stressful situation, in this case, humanity being on the brink of extinction. Kim plays Gu An-na, an AI researcher trapped in an apartment building with rising waters and a son to save.

Park Hae-soo, famous for his role in the hit series Squid Game, Money Heist: Korea, and Prison Playbook, stars opposite Kim Da-mi as Son Hee-jo. Son offers to rescue Gu An-na, but his motives make the conflict harder and the stakes higher. 

Kwon Eun-seong of Netflix's Typhoon Family stars as Shin Za-in, the son of Kim Da-mi's Gu An-na. Meanwhile, Jeon Hye-jin, Kang Bin, Jeon Yu-na, Park Byung-eun, and Lee Hak-joo round out the cast. Each character contributes to the survival story by showing different perspectives and personal struggles as the flood grows more serious.
