For more than a decade, the Fifty Shades films have tied up Valentine’s Day with a red ribbon and a knowing wink, convincing audiences that love is best expressed with a nondisclosure agreement. The trilogy made international stars of Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan, and for many Netflix subscribers, Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele have become less a guilty pleasure than a recurring appointment.

Alas, even long affairs must end. Netflix is clearing its throat, checking its watch, and preparing to show the Fifty Shades trilogy the door.

Netflix will be taking out the Fifty Shades film trilogy, composed of Fifty Shades of Grey, Fifty Shades Darker, and Fifty Shades Freed, from the US streaming list in the coming year. For those who have not seen the series or those who re-binge, the time is now to watch all three films on Netflix, as they will disappear on January 1, 2026.

Fifty Shades, which is based on E.L. James' best-selling novels, not only captivated the audience with its love, betrayal, and passion but also generated stunning box office numbers. In fact, the series has become a timeless classic, grossing over $1.32 billion globally, becoming the seventh highest-grossing R-rated franchise of all-time.

The film series continued to captivate the Netflix audience with its sizzling romance and burning tension a decade after its theatrical release. Their exodus is part of a more comprehensive list of films that will make their exit and includes titles like Harry Potter films, G.I. Joe franchise, The Hangover films, Kung Fu Panda franchise, Lost, and several other classics.

This withdrawal is a result of the licensing arrangements that lapse by the end of that year. Netflix had a temporary right to stream the Fifty Shades titles from Universal Pictures, and without contract renewals, the streaming titan has to let go of the films. However, Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele's titillating romance lives on in other streaming platforms.

After its Netflix exit, finding the Fifty Shades franchise on other streaming platforms should be a cakewalk.

Where to watch Fifty Shades after Netflix's removal?

When the Fifty Shades movies leave Netflix, the next possible alternative might be Max or Peacock, where Universal's movies usually go after their licensing agreements with other platforms are over. The movies will also be available on demand through Apple TV for renting or purchasing after Netflix removes them.

The trilogy centers on an innocent hardware store employee, Ana, who gets romantically involved with the enigmatic billionaire Christian Grey. It explores themes of power, trust, emotional intricacies, sensuality, and darkness that gradually take over their intense relationship throughout the trilogy.
