Hawkins may finally be free from monsters and the Mind Flayer, but the Duffer Brothers are all set to introduce new troubles in a new city. After the fifth and final season of Stranger Things, the Duffer Brothers’ production banner, Upside Down Pictures, has begun work on a new series titled The Boroughs. 

The story is set in the rural and quiet lands of the New Mexico desert, and follows a group of slightly older misfits who must team together to battle a supernatural danger that threatens the world.

With an entirely new cast, a fresh story, and unfamiliar mysteries and threats, there is plenty to unpack about The Boroughs.

The cast of The Boroughs will clearly be one of the biggest strengths, with an impressive lineup of veteran stars. Alfred Molina (Sam), Geena Davis (Renee), Alfre Woodard (Judy), Bill Pullman (Jack), Clarke Peters (Art), and Denis O’Hare (Wally) were among the first main actors announced.

They will be joined by Jena Malone (Claire), Carlos Miranda (Pax), Seth Numrich (Blaine), and Alice Kremelberg (Anneliese). As the Duffer Brothers’ earlier hinted, the team appears to be slightly older than the Stranger Things cast, and perhaps wiser too.

However, the only way to truly find out is when the series finally airs. With the show expected to arrive after the conclusion of Stranger Things, fans are now left wondering when The Boroughs will make its way to their screens.

Created by Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews, the series will consist of eight intense episodes. Back in September 2024, Upside Down Pictures shared a clapboard image announcing the start of production. While no official release date has been confirmed, the series is already in development and is expected to arrive on screens in the near future.

For now, fans have been given a glimpse of the cast and a few hints about the show.

The story of The Boroughs is set in a sun-soaked yet seemingly peaceful corner of the New Mexico desert. Much like Stranger Things, an unlikely group will come together to confront an otherworldly threat. Many aspects of the show are still under wraps.

Now, executive produced by Ben Taylor and Hilary Leavitt, The Boroughs is already drawing comparisons to Stranger Things even before its release. As a result, the hype and expectations are high, and whether the series can live up to them remains to be seen.
