Netflix rarely disappoints when it comes to delivering compelling content within the realm of teen psychodrama and gritty coming-of-age narratives. From cult favorites that dissect the complex darkness of adolescence to critically acclaimed limited series, the streaming giant has built a reputation for producing projects that explore the unsettling blend of youthful angst, social pressure, and supernatural undertones. Now, the platform is doubling down on this successful genre with the highly anticipated new series, The Body, a show that plunges viewers into the world of Catholic school girls.

The writer-director has detailed the shocking and deeply personal premise that fuels this new series.

According to Tudum, The Body centers on a group of badly behaved Catholic school dance troupe girls whose attempt at a group initiation goes violently wrong. This flawed ritual acts as the catalyst, causing the girls to experience prophetic visions that quickly spiral out of control, igniting a mass frenzy throughout their conservative town. Creator Quinn Shephard, who calls this her "most personal" project, intentionally merges the pressures of girlhood with religious fanaticism, presenting it as a teen psychodrama with a sprint of Catholic horror.

The creative inspiration for the eight-episode series draws heavily from classic psychodramas, with Shephard citing films such as Carrie, Jennifer’s Body, and Heavenly Creatures. She promises a spooky sense of mounting dread and major cliff-hangers, according to Tudum.
