In Remarkably Bright Creatures, Sally Field takes on the role of Tova, a grieving widow employed at a community aquarium. The movie's central theme is the unexpected connections Tova ends up making with a giant octopus named Marcellus (voiced by Alfred Molina) and a newcomer to town, a headstrong young man named Cameron (Lewis Pullman). They join forces to reveal a mystery that culminates in a transformative discovery and rekindles their sense of wonder. The film is based on Shelby Van Pelt’s book by the same name, and the adaptation is helmed by Olivia Newman.
The mystery feel-good drama is a good weekend watch, but there is another one from the legendary actress that perfectly slips into the fun watchlist.
2. Little Evil
One ought not to go by its name, as this horror-comedy uses evil to tickle those funny bones. Gary Bloom (Adam Scott) discovers that his stepson, 5-year-old Lucas (Owen Atlas), is suspiciously connected to two unexplained deaths after he marries the stunning Samantha (Evangeline Lilly). Gary discovers unsettling information when researching the history of his new family, which makes him believe that Lucas could be evil incarnate. Eli Craig wrote and directed Little Evil, in which Sally Field portrays Miss Shaylock, a Child Protective Services employee.
From feel-good and horror comedy, the list now shifts to something more serious and dark.
3. Maniac
The dark psychological drama, Maniac, is most well-acquainted with the ideas of conceptuality and intricacy. Set in a retro-futuristic New York City, Emma Stone and Jonah Hill play two strangers who cross paths while participating in hallucinogenic drug research. Being black sheep of his extremely wealthy family, Owen (Hill), enrolls in the study after hearing that it might alleviate his schizophrenia and drive out Grimsson (Billy Magnussen), the fictional brother he continues having hallucinations about. He meets Annie (Stone) there, who appears delighted to enter his purported fantasy world.
Sally Field plays Dr. Greta Mantleray, the trial's therapist.
If this feels dark and heavy, one need not fret, Netflix has another Sally Field gem that is a classic when it comes to comedy.
4. Mrs. Doubtfire
In the comedy-drama Mrs. Doubtfire, a loving father disguises himself as an elderly housekeeper in order to spend time with his three kids following a divorce. The movie centers on Daniel Hillard (Robin Williams), a creative and fun-loving voice actor from San Francisco, who is still battling with adulthood and responsibility. Daniel's wife, Miranda (Sally Field), files for divorce following a tumultuous birthday celebration for his kid, and he is only given restricted visiting privileges. Daniel devises a scheme to pose as Euphegenia Doubtfire or "Mrs. Doubtfire," a British nanny, in an attempt to stay near his kids.
There is another iconic comedy featuring the iconic star on Netflix that is an entertaining road action-comedy film.
5. Smokey and the Bandit
The movie centers on legendary truck driver Bo "Bandit" Darville (Burt Reynolds) and his friend Cledus "Snowman" Snow (Jerry Reed), who are hired by wealthy Texan millionaires Big Enos (Pat McCormick to move 400 cases of Coors beer from Texarkana, Texas, to Atlanta, Georgia, in 28 hours in exchange for a sum of $80,000. No one has ever been able to accomplish this feat because it is illegal to move Coors east of the Mississippi River, and that is why there is a big reward. They meet Carrie (Sally Field), a runaway bride, at the beginning of their trip, and she joins them in their sleek black 1977 Pontiac Trans Am.
The movie was so loved that it even got a sequel, and Netflix brought it to its platform, too.
6. Smokey and the Bandit II
Smokey and the Bandit II is a follow-up to the 1977 film and brings back Burt Reynolds as Bandit once more. After Carrie (Sally Field) broke up with him, Bandit is sad and turns to alcohol for solace. But he gets back into action when Snowman (Jerry Reed) offers him a new, lucrative job, transporting a live elephant to the GOP National Convention, which also hides the opportunity to get back in touch with Carrie.
There is something with Sally Field and comedies; the last entry on the list also happens to be exactly it.
7. Steel Magnolias
In the 1989 comedy-drama Steel Magnolias, six Southern ladies in a tiny Louisiana town deal with life, love, grief, and chronic disease with friendship and laughter. Based on Robert Harling's 1987 play of the same name, this heartbreaking dramedy, directed by Herbert Ross (Turning Point), centers on M'Lynn Eatenton (Sally Field), Shelby Eatenton (Julia Roberts), Truvy Jones (Dolly Parton), Annelle (Daryl Hannah), Clairee Belcher (Olympia Dukakis), and Ouiser (Shirley MacLaine).
