Everything to know about The Abandons Season 2 on Netflix

Rumors about The Abandons Season 2 are rife, with every episode escalating the tensions that have not been resolved. However, the fate of the plot as well as the show's return for a sequel remains vague.

At the moment, there is no official announcement from Netflix of a second season of the Kurt Sutter Western drama. The first season, comprising seven episodes, premiered on December 4, 2025, but met with severe critical aversion and poor ratings, despite the strong star cast.

Netflix is likely assessing the show's early performance to decide on its renewal. Despite being cut from the same cloth as Sutter's FX phenomenon Sons of Anarchy, the show has garnered a bitter 23 percent critics' score on Rotten Tomatoes.

The show's finale literally ends in flames as the dramatic arc between the wealthy Van Ness family and the Abandons collapsed in a violent, fiery clash. Its revelations of secrets, vengeance, and threat to entire bloodlines make the cliffhanger a real puzzle, leaving room for a sequel.

Is Netflix’s ‘The Abandons’ Based on Real Life? The Inspirations Behind the Western Drama Revealed

Netflix's silence on The Abandons Season 2 only makes the wait worse as the dark western epic with morally ambiguous characters has already captured everyone's attention, including an unexpected demographic of sapphic audience for its intriguing matriarchal plotline.

How The Abandons got everyone hooked: Plot, cast, and what to expect

The Abandons chronicles two warring families in 1850s Oregon. A devout Irishwoman, Fiona Nolan, who has adopted four orphans, battles European aristocrats contesting her new home. The show heralds a new era of Western storytelling, proving Netflix's keen eye for gritty and emotionally rich dramas.

Sex Education's Gillian Anderson takes on the role of Constance Van Ness, a shrewd and wealthy matriarch whose main goal is not only to expand her mining empire but also to eliminate any rival claiming her fortune. Meanwhile, her antagonist is Game of Thrones' Lena Headey as Fiona Nolan, a strong but kind-hearted woman and the ruler of the Abandons, the orphans and outcasts.

The show also boasts a stellar supporting cast, including Love, Simon's Nick Robinson as Elias Teller, Booksmart's Diana Silvers as Dahlia Teller, Game of Thrones' Aisling Franciosi as Trisha Van Ness, among others. Inspired by the American Mafia, Kurt Sutter's show has a runtime of 35–52 minutes per episode.

In case The Abandons gets a second run, expect the unresolved tensions to boil over as the mistrust among both clans intensifies. However, the original executive producer, Sutter, per Deadline, abandoning the series over creative differences right before it finished filming might change its direction to a great extent.
