The story of Reality is based on the one-hour interrogation that two FBI officers took of Reality Winner. Satter considered it a compelling subject and penned a play titled ‘Is This A Room’ based on it. Following the play’s tremendous success, Satter made the decision to develop it into a feature film. Recognizing Sweeney’s potential to shoulder the significant responsibility of portraying Winner on screen, she created Reality with Sweeney in mind.
