'Stranger Things: Tales From ’85' Gets a Season 2 in Less Than a Year From Release, Gets Season 2 Trailer

Stranger Things: Tales From ’85 will bring a new adventure from Hawkins. The animated show just got the green light for Season 2. Created by Eric Robles, the first season arrived just four months after the Duffer Brothers’ original live-action series, Stranger Things, concluded with its fifth and final season. While documentaries explored the making of the series, this animated version brings back new adventures, following the same nerd group.

With Stranger Things, having a decade run, it seems the animated series has borrowed from its namesake than just characters and settings.

It is not surprising that Stranger Things: Tales From ’85 is renewed just five days after the animated series premiered on April 23, 2026. Upon making its debut, the show rose to number 7 on the Netflix global top list. It was reportedly viewed for 13.8 million hours and had 2.8 million views.

While the release date has not been confirmed, the show is expected to return sometime this fall. Its first season was set during Seasons 2 and 3 of the original series while introducing a new character, Nikki. The second season will also continue to explore more adventures within that timeline. The streaming giant also dropped a new trailer for season 2.

Creator Eric Robles had previously mentioned that the show was made with younger audiences in mind. He added that much like the first season, the second will also focus on simple challenges rather than introducing threats like Vecna or the Mind Flayer, as the gates to the Upside Down cannot be opened. He further explained that this limitation was a creative challenge, and what helped inspire his approach was his favorite 1980s film, Re-Animator.

“This classic ‘80s film gave me the idea. If we can have Hawkins lab science meet Upside Down matter as they did in Re-Animator, then we can open up this whole new kind of adventure,” he told The Hollywood Reporter.

As for how many seasons the show can have, it is also limited by being set between Seasons 2 and 3.

Fortunately, the show has been renewed for a second season, but how much further it can stretch remains uncertain, given that it must stay within the timeline between Seasons 2 and 3 of Stranger Things. Creator Eric Robles understands this limitation and has said he has a number of seasons in mind, with no intention of extending the story unnecessarily. He also explained that his focus is on having a proper ending to the series, even hinting that it may not be a perfect one.

“But I’m going to do my best with my team. It’s not going to satisfy everybody. That is the most impossible task ever. But I can tell you that we will satisfy this story, Tales From ‘85,” he told The Hollywood reporter.

He added that his goal is to wrap up this timeline neatly while giving a meaningful conclusion to the new character, Nikki. Voiced by Odessa A’zion, Nikki is introduced as a friend of Eleven and the group, but she is not mentioned in the original series. Because of this, Robles needs to connect the storyline smoothly to Season 3. Considering his plans, the show could potentially get another season, but that will depend on how Season 2 concludes.
