‘Stranger Things’ Producers Tackling Live-Action ‘Persona’ Series for Netflix With 21 Laps and Story Kitchen

Live-action adaptations have now become a hot commodity; everyone wants a piece of that, especially Netflix, which has been announcing live-action after live-action, be it on anime, webtoons, or games. Just recently, the streamer released the second season of Avatar: The Last Airbender live-action adaptation, after the massive success of season 1 in 2024. Now, another live-action adaptation of a very well-known IP is set to join the mix.
Netflix has just announced a live-action adaptation of the hit RPG, Persona, in collaboration with Stranger Things producer 21 Laps and Story Kitchen.
Persona gets the Netflix live-action treatment

Netflix is adding Persona to its list of video game adaptations, via an exclusive by Variety. Using one of its most successful production partners, Shawn Levy, the streamer is creating a live-action series based on a popular Japanese role-playing franchise. According to what some sources told Variety, Christopher Monfette has been chosen to script the live-action Persona series and will serve as executive producer and showrunner.
Monfette has previously written for 9-1-1, Star Trek: Picard, and 12 Monkeys. Additionally, he is working on the upcoming Marvel Disney+ series VisionQuest as a writer and co-executive producer. Levy, Dan Levine, and Robert Atwood will serve as executive producers under the 21 Laps banner, which is responsible for Netflix's worldwide hit series Stranger Things.
In addition to producing popular television series like The Perfect Couple and Last Man Standing, 21 Laps has also produced popular movies like Backrooms and Deadpool & Wolverine, the latter of which Levy co-wrote and directed. Along with Toru Nakahara of SEGA, Dmitri M. Johnson, Timothy I. Stevenson, and Michael Lawrence Goldberg from Story Kitchen also serve as executive producers. Emily Feher is reportedly in charge of 21 Laps' entire TV contract with Netflix, per Variety.
Persona is a big RPG gaming IP in Japan that is now being reimagined for a real-world adventure by Netflix.
Netflix strikes big with Persona live-action adaptation
Since its 1996 debut with Revelations: Persona, the Persona franchise has amassed a passionate worldwide fan base. The publication claims that the game series consists of six major entries and fifteen spin-offs. The majority of its storylines revolve around Japanese high school students juggling conflicts with supernatural forces with daily routines and friendships.

Netflix’s 2026-27 has been flush with live-action adaptations, with some of them being drawn from webtoons. All of Us Are Dead season 2, Mousetrap, Teach You a Lesson, Viral Hit, Bloodhounds season 2, and Solo Leveling are just a few examples of the adaptations waiting in Netflix’s line-up.
