The creators of Stranger Things are actively getting questioned about whether a soul as dark as Henry Creel’s can ever truly find peace. The Duffer Brothers confirmed in the Entertainment Tonight interview that the final episode will specifically explore if any goodness lingers within him.
They draw a comparison with previous redemption arcs, wondering if a moment of clarity could emerge before the end. This exploration of his psyche promises to add a complex layer to the ultimate confrontation.
“Is there still goodness inside of him? That is a question we definitely explore in the final episode” said Matt Duffer during the interview.
While the actor, Jamie Campbell, acknowledges in the Entertainment Tonight interview the sheer scale of the character's atrocities, he suggests that a small part of the original child remains hidden beneath the monstrous exterior. This internal struggle between the villain and his past self seems to be a focal point for the upcoming finale of Stranger Things.
"Underneath the monster there is always the child, and Vecna is no different," Jamie Campbell Bower explains during the interview.
The evolution of this character has been a long and bloody road through the history of Hawkins.

Henry Creel began his journey as a sensitive but deeply disturbed child who discovered he possessed extraordinary psychic abilities. After eliminating his own family, he became the first subject in Dr. Brenner’s secretive experiments, eventually transforming into the mentor-turned-monster known as One.
His defeat at the hands of Eleven banished him to the Upside Down, where his physical form began its gruesome mutation. Over several decades, he reshaped the alternate dimension to reflect his own nihilistic vision and thirst for control.
