The Duffer Brothers are heading back to Netflix with a new project titled Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen. Created under their Upside Down Pictures banner, this is their first venture since the conclusion of the Stranger Things series. Since the announcement of the new show in 2023, the project quickly became highly anticipated for its unique horror plot. 

After an excruciatingly polite wait, the show has at last decided to bare its teeth. The premiere date is set, the arrival is imminent, and viewers can stay assured that whatever very bad the Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen title was warning about, is not going to be an unconfirmed premiere date.

Filming for Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen took place in Mississauga, Ontario, beginning on January 20, 2025, and concluding on May 1, 2025. And at long last, the series is slated for release on March 26, 2026. In this project, the Duffer Brothers step into the roles of executive producers, allowing creator and showrunner Haley Z. Boston full creative authority as she tells a horror story about a bride and groom about to get married.

The story follows Rachel Harkin (Camila Morrone) and Nicky Cunningham (Adam DiMarco) as they travel to his family’s secluded vacation home for their wedding. Drawing inspiration from Carrie and Rosemary’s Baby, Boston focuses on the next chapter, which is the horrors of a woman becoming a wife. Refreshing and unsettling, the story shows strong promise.

While Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen is all set in place, the Duffer Brothers have more projects wearing their name this year. 

Apart from Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen, the Duffer Brothers have a packed slate this year, with several new series lined up for release. The Boroughs will carry the same supernatural element but shift the story to a new town with an entirely new cast. Meanwhile, their love for the Stranger Things universe is far from over.

They are returning to it with Stranger Things: Tales from ’85, which is an animated spinoff show between Seasons 2 and 3. The duo’s banner is also working on The Savage and The Noble Death of Babs Dionne. Now that a premiere date has been announced for Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen, release details for the rest of their upcoming shows are expected to follow soon. 

Clearly, the Duffer Brothers are widening their creative scope beyond Hawkins. And if this slate proves anything, it is that the Duffer Brothers are opening a larger universe.
