Ronaldinho: The One and Only is scheduled to premiere on Netflix on April 16, 2026. The three-part miniseries is the first in a larger cycle of documentaries that also includes Tetra: Acreditar de Novo (USA 94: Brazil’s Return to Glory), premiering on May 7, and Várzea: Onde Nasce o Futebol (The Root of the Game), premiering on June 8.
The docuseries, which is a part of Netflix's expanding investment in Brazilian original sports storytelling, will tell the story of an important figure in the country’s football history.
The story of Ronaldinho: The One and Only
As the name suggests, Ronaldinho: The One and Only will center on the life and career of one of the greatest soccer players of all time, Ronaldinho Gaúcho. The documentary is a window into the stardom of the player through never-before-seen historical material and unparalleled access to his current private life. Viewers will be taken through his accomplishments and setbacks through the three episodes.
Essentially, it is the tale of how a young man hailing from Porto Alegre became one of the most celebrated athletes in history and dominated the world of football for quite some time. Although such an illustrious life is difficult to fit into a miniseries, the documentary will have to fit in all the major milestones and defeats in the allotted time. To achieve this, the makers have gone to great lengths to give as comprehensive a glimpse as possible into the football star’s life.
What to expect from the docuseries?
The series seeks to uncover the person behind the legend - the player who elevated jogo bonito (Portuguese phrase for "play beautifully," popularized by Pelé) to new artistic heights - rather than merely showcasing a collection of awards and memorable goals. The documentary combines recent interviews with international celebrities such as Lionel Messi, Neymar Jr., Roberto Carlos, Carles Puyol, Gilberto Silva, and more with rare vintage material.
