The tale of the Shelbys will add a new chapter with this sequel series set in the 1950s, which has begun shooting in Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent. On March 4 and 5, 2026, production teams from Kudos, the group behind This Town and SAS Rogue Heroes, arrived at the location for a concentrated two-day shoot. The project has been held under a title that is still under wraps. But one thing is for sure, it will be a crucial addition to the Peaky Blinders universe.
For the past few days, the production's main location has been the historic Queen's Theatre, but as previously announced, Digbeth Loc. studios in Birmingham will host the majority of the filming. As it turns out, Steven Knight has a soft spot for Stoke-on-Trent because of his prior visits to the location. The Queen's Theatre in Burslem, which has been closed for a long time, and Middleport Pottery served as filming locations for parts of the original Peaky Blinders series.
On March 4, the first day of filming, practically all of the action took place inside the theater. The Grade II-listed building's vast, antique interior offers the ideal setting for the mid-century style needed for the new era. By the second day, on March 5, the action had already shifted to Jenkins Street, which is close by. The neighborhood was transformed into post-war Britain with the help of period-appropriate set dressing and a sight of cars from the 1950s.
Fans are also curious about the storyline of this sequel drama, and what new they can expect from the Peaky Blinders franchise now.
The plot of the sequel and the creative team behind it
The story is set in 1953 Birmingham, which was extensively damaged during WWII, and is now using steel and concrete to create a better future. This creates an opportunity to control Birmingham's enormous reconstruction project, and the race turns into a ferocious battle of legendary proportions. The Shelby family is at the center of this city's unparalleled potential and peril.
The drama will be helmed by Kudos and Garrison Drama production. Knight (the mastermind behind the original series), Cillian Murphy, Karen Wilson and Martin Haines from Kudos, Jamie Glazebrook from Garrison Drama, Jo McClellan from the BBC, and Mona Qureshi and Toby Bentley from Netflix are among its executive producers.
