Julia Garner once took Netflix by storm as Ruth Langmore in Ozark, which made her a Netflix standout and launched her into stardom. Post that she starred in many projects like Inventing Anna, playing a cunning socialite, and as Terry Gionoffrio in Apartment 7A. After these glories, the three-time Emmy-winning actress is returning to her digital roots, back to the streaming giant for another compelling collaboration, The Altruists, that will leave the fans praising her talent.

Returning this time to take over the digital empire in the world of crypto, and on board is another impressive lead opposite of her.

The Altruists will see Julia Garner playing Caroline Ellison, and starring alongside her is Anthony Boyle as Sam Bankman-Fried. These two hyper-smart, ambitious young idealists will be shaking the global financial system with the evil aim of stealing $8 billion. The camera is scheduled to roll for this eight-episode series soon, by July 1, and will be wrapped by November 24, 2025.

Following this filming schedule, it is expected that The Altruists could appear on Netflix by the second half of 2026, once all production is properly finished. Besides being the lead star for the upcoming original series, Julia Garner is also expected to help lead the charge as executive producer. She will be joined by Graham Moore and Jacqueline Hoyt as co-showrunners and executive producers, with James Ponsoldt directing the first episode. Though there is one detail that has left the fans confused.

Apparently, there is a literary work with the same name that is making fans wonder if the series is an adaptation.

Is The Altruists based on the famous novel?

No, setting the record straight, Netflix’s upcoming series The Altruists and the novel of the same name are different works. Neither is the series an adaptation, nor has it taken any inspiration. The series is about the shocking real-life story of fraudster Caroline Ellison, the former crypto executive and romantic interest of the infamous FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried. They were convicted of fraud in 2023 in the bankruptcy of FTX. On the other hand, the novel is an all-fictitious tale by Andrew Ridker about a professor, Arthur Alter, and his attempts to recover his inheritance from his estranged children.

A dark yet funny family saga that explores themes of privilege, morality, and other things, the novel is a fictional cult in the Grand Theft Auto series. They revolve around money, but the two are not remotely related. This marks a big streaming comeback for Julia Garner, proving that her Ozark days might be over, but her connection to Netflix remains firmly intact.
