Netflix has never disappointed with its slew of mystery, romance, friendship, and thriller series, but one show that blends all of these effortlessly is Outer Banks. Spanning four seasons so far, the series has continued to entertain its audiences with its exciting blend of teen drama, action, and treasure hunts.

Now, the show is gearing up for a fifth season, with the same characters set to reprise their roles. As the series moves toward its final installment, the excitement among fans is at an all-time high. 

However, after the shocking ending of Season 4, viewers are especially curious about what the plot of Season 5 might hold.

The story of Outer Banks follows two groups of teens divided as the Pogues, a working-class crew, and the Kooks, the wealthy elite, as they deal with personal struggles, friendships, and more. As for Season 5, which will be the show’s final chapter, series creators Josh Pate, Jonas Pate, and Shannon Burke have hinted that its return will be bittersweet.

“We can’t wait to show everyone what we have in store this season—it’s going to be a wild ride,” they told Tudum.

Season 4 ended with the shocking death of JJ in Morocco and his friends vowing to avenge him, which suggests that Season 5’s storyline could revolve around the aftermath of this tragedy. 

However, until the new season arrives on Netflix, the plot remains speculative. This brings us to the next big question: when will Outer Banks Season 5 be released, and could it arrive as early as next year?

In early June, the cast reportedly began filming Season 5, which is expected to be the final season, in Charleston, South Carolina. The good news is that production has officially wrapped this year, which can only mean the show’s release is drawing closer.

While an exact release date has not yet been revealed, the series is expected to drop on Netflix in 2026. However, since Season 4 already hinted at the direction of the story, it has also suggested which characters might be missing from the cast in the upcoming season.

Will all the cast members return for this last wild ride on Netflix? One of them has already bid farewell to both his character and the show.

Fortunately, most of the familiar faces are set to return for what is expected to be the final season of Outer Banks. Chase Stokes, Madelyn Cline, Madison Bailey, Jonathan Daviss, and Carlacia Grant are all expected to reprise their roles. Supporting cast members such as Drew Starkey and Austin North are also likely to make appearances.

However, Rudy Pankow, who played JJ in the series, has already confirmed that he will not be returning for Season 5 following his character’s death in Season 4.
