won the award for Outstanding Actor in a motion picture in Emancipation. Along

Janelle Monáe, the American singer, rapper, and actress, accepted the trophy on

Set in Louisiana in the 1860s, after President Abraham Lincoln declared an end
to slavery in the US, Emancipation is a story based on true events. It is the
story of enslaved men, Gordon and Peter. Peter (Will Smith) escaped for his
freedom and the story followed the man and his miseries. While the film got
widely positive reviews, the actor himself opened up about how shooting some
scenes took a toll on him.
