Iñaki Godoy, the Mexican actor who embodies Monkey D. Luffy in Netflix's live-action One Piece adaptation, has become the face of unending positivity and his contagious pirate energy. Ahead of season 2, Godoy has found a new friend in a peak crossover that no one expected. Netflix recently shared a clip of Elmo and Godoy sharing a bond wherein Elmo is preparing to join the Straw Hats. 

In the clip, Godoy explained to Elmo what Nakama meant, embracing the pop culture icon as a close friend, following the heartiest principles of the Straw Hats in the show or the source manga. The online crossover featuring Elmo from Sesame Street as the newest member of their crew, notably, second in line to become the king of pirates after Luffy, further fuels the flames of anticipation. 

This crossover shows how deeply One Piece connects with fans of all ages, though Elmo has not yet become an official member of the crew. The story contains themes of friendship, wonder, and adventure, which make it impossible for even a furry red character to resist joining. Meanwhile, Godoy's performance established One Piece as one of Netflix's most-watched programs while fans created excitement for season 2, which is named Into The Grand Line and will feature a jaw-dropping ensemble of stars.

Though Elmo might not be in One Piece canon, wondering who will appear in season 2?

Premiering on March 10, 2026, on Netflix worldwide, One Piece returns to the streamer with a ship full of stars, both veterans and new. Season 2 includes returning favorites such as Iñaki Godoy as Luffy, Mackenyu as Zoro, Emily Rudd as Nami, Jacob Romero Gibson as Usopp, and Taz Skylar as Sanji. The crew discovers new islands and encounters new dangers, which serve as the basis for their show that creates thrilling adventures and opens avenues for new characters.

Beloved new faces like Charithra Chandran's Vivi and Mikaela Hoover's Tony Tony Chopper will bring beloved manga arcs to life.
