Continuing that tradition is Nothing To Lose, a poignant French-Belgian drama co-directed by Nawell Madani and Ludovic Colbeau-Justin.

The emotional drama film Nothing To Lose, which is scheduled for a global Netflix release on July 8, 2026, is co-directed by Belgian comedian and filmmaker Nawell Madani alongside Ludovic Colbeau-Justin. However, despite completing production well before its release, the project remained almost entirely under wraps until June 10, 2026, when Netflix unexpectedly unveiled its first official trailer and announced the release date.

Plot of Nothing to Lose

On the same day of the trailer release, Nawell Madani shared the trailer across her social media platforms, confirming the film's premise and offering audiences their first glimpse into its deeply emotional story. As per Madani, the film follows Jade, played by herself, whose years-long struggle to become a mother finally ends after she and her partner, played by Guillaume Gouix, choose embryo donation. Her long-awaited happiness is shattered when she finds herself raising her newborn son alone and learns that he has been diagnosed with a rare, aggressive form of leukemia. As his condition worsens, Jade embarks on a desperate race against time to find a compatible bone marrow donor before it is too late.

The inspiration stems from deeply personal territory, as Madani went through a long and incredibly difficult parenting journey before welcoming her daughter in 2021, giving her a deep understanding of the parental vulnerability required for the film. She also shares her directorial responsibilities for Nothing To Lose with Ludovic Colbeau-Justin, an experienced French filmmaker who previously worked with her on her directorial debut Stand Up, Girl! (2017).

“Through the character of Jade, I wanted to tell the story of a mother facing the unthinkable. A woman who refuses to give up even as everything seems compromised. A story of love, courage, and hope that I carried with all my heart. I can’t wait to share it with you all," she shared while sharing the teaser.

Cast of Nothing to Lose

Alongside Nawell Madani and Guillaume Gouix, a strong supporting ensemble includes Nicolas Briançon, Paul Fouré, Steve Tientchieu, David Salles, Majida Ghomari, Aïssatou Diallo, and Sarah Stern, all adding more depth to Jade’s world. More than a story about motherhood, Nothing To Lose explores the devastating intersection of long-awaited hope and unimaginable loss, asking just how far a mother will go when the child she fought so hard to have is suddenly slipping away.
