Noah Schnapp Takes the Stage as 'Stranger Things' Wins Best Drama at GLAAD Awards

The GLAAD Media Awards returned for its annual run this year, celebrating and recognizing television and film projects that champion inclusive storytelling and LGBTQ+ representation. Several shows, including Heated Rivalry and Palm Royale, were among the notable shows honored at the 37th edition of the ceremony. Stranger Things, which recently wrapped up its highly anticipated fifth and final season, also received recognition at the event.

Despite tough competition from shows like Doctor Who, The Gilded Age, and The Last of Us, Stranger Things ultimately took home the Outstanding Drama Series award. Noah Schnapp, who plays Will Byers in the series, walked up on stage to accept the honor. During his speech, the actor also spoke about the importance of telling stories about Will and Robin and added how it was a meaningful and inspiring experience.
“It means so much to see our characters like Will and Robin resonate with so many young people around the world, so thank you,” he said.
The show’s fifth season places greater focus on Robin supporting Will Byers as he accepts his identity. Her encouragement ultimately helps Will confront his fears and stand up to Vecna. Many viewers have praised the storyline, applauding Will’s journey and the thoughtful way the series handled his arc especially in the final moments.
One of the highlights of the final season is when Will comes out to his family and friends, a scene on which the makers and Noah Schnapp himself had shed light.

In one of the scenes of Stranger Things season 5, Will Byers finally finds the courage to speak about his identity to his family and friends. The emotional scene also brings most of the characters together in one place. Speaking of the scene, Noah Schnapp recalled how it was a powerful moment.
"It was so nice to get our gays in one frame. I loved working with Maya and she absolutely finally helped Will come out of his shell and make him feel comfortable that he’s not alone in this and that he can be himself," Schnapp told Gayety.

He even called it one of the most intense and emotional scenes of the series. Although many criticized the moment, calling it unrelated to the sci-fi show, others praised and spoke about the importance of the scene. After all, it had a crucial role in helping Will find the courage to face Vecna and bring an end to his chapter, and ultimately bring a GLAAD award to Noah Schnapp.
