After the romantic fake-to-real turn and haters-to-lovers trope, Bridgerton is now bringing forth the friend-to-lovers dynamics in its upcoming third season. Netflix dropped the trailer for this much-anticipated installment last month. However, fans have known since May 2022 that the show would depart from the sequential order of the Bridgerton novels to bring to life the long-awaited love affair between Penelope Featherington and Colin Bridgerton, played by Nicola Coughlan and Luke Newton. 

Just recently, the newest lead, Nicola Coughlan, opened up about what season 3 signified to her on a personal level, and the steps she took within it to silence all the haters in a single stroke.

In a recent interview with the Los Angeles Times, Nicola Coughlan revealed that she personally lobbied for the inclusion of specific lines and moments in the upcoming season of Bridgerton. One scene, in particular, saw the actress bravely baring it all on camera. Reflecting on this choice, she stated, “It just felt like the biggest f**k you to all the conversation surrounding my body”. The scene made her feel both powerful and beautiful.

The 37-year-old actress mused about how the scene in question would be a memory she would treasure, even in her 80s. During a chat on SiriusXM Hits 1 earlier this year, the actress opened up about her negotiations with Netflix and Shondaland for Season 3. Apparently; she requested the production of an alternate cut of episodes without her racier bits, just so she could share them with her parents. Nonetheless, the romance between Penelope and Colin will not be the only focus of the season.

Bridgerton producer, Betsy Beers, recently revealed that the third season will also explore another dynamic that holds a special place in her heart. 

During a recent interview for a Variety Power of Women cover story, executive producers Shonda Rhimes and Betsy Beers chatted with the publication about the third season of Bridgerton. Beers took the opportunity to express her fondness for two characters on the show- Penelope Featherington, played by Nicola Coughlan, and Eloise Bridgerton, played by Claudia Jessie. 

Beers made it clear that what really matters to her is the bond these characters share. Hinting at what was to come in season three, she teased that fans would see more of their complicated relationship, which was full of drama and backstabbing last season. It looks like fans can expect to learn more about characters they have not really gotten to know yet, including Nicola Coughlan.
