The Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles stood out as one of Nickelodeon's most visually distinctive animated shows. In recent years, Netflix has continued to shuffle its content library, removing several licensed TV shows and animated projects as streaming rights expire. Hence, it did not come as a surprise when it was announced that the Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is leaving Netflix on June 1, 2026. Based on the iconic and beloved comic book characters, the series tells the story of Leonardo, Raphael, Donatello, and Michelangelo, four mutant turtle brothers.
They live in a secret place under New York. Older brother Raphael leads the team, while second-in-command Leonardo is the wise one. Donatello is the brainy tech nerd, and Michelangelo is the youngest artist. The brothers unlock and wield mystical weapons and elemental powers rather than traditional ninja armaments.
However, in this show, unlike recent adaptations, the turtles use their mystical powers to defeat their enemies, bringing fantasy elements to the story. Guided by their master Splinter and aided by their friend April O’Neil, the four brothers fight to save New York City from threats. Ben Schwartz voiced Leonardo, Brandon Mychal Smith worked as Michelangelo, Omar Benson Miller as Raphael, Josh Brener as Donatello, Eric Bauza as Splinter, and Kat Graham voiced April O’Neil.
Despite its fresh take on the franchise and unique fantasy elements, Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles ultimately ended with two seasons.
Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles ended before a Season 3 could happen
Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is a new, contemporary take on the famed franchise. The characters were created by comic-book veterans Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird. The series was a modern re-imagining of the franchise and not a spin-off or continuation of previous adaptations.
The series picks up the story when a strange traveler, Casey Jones, comes from a dystopian future (2044). Jones did it to warn the brothers of an impending invasion by an unstoppable alien force called the Krang. The Krang have laid waste to Earth, and Leonardo must step up to lead his brothers.
However, the series was eventually cancelled before a full Season 3 could happen. The Nickelodeon series ended after two seasons. While the story continued with the 2022 Netflix movie Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Movie, there was no official third season produced.
