Carley Fortune's This Summer Will Be Different is the latest novel preparing to trade dog-eared pages for sun-drenched coastal vistas, promising a story that feels equal parts beach read and aching love letter.

Netflix has assembled a cast that blends familiar streaming favorites with rising stars. Production officially began on Prince Edward Island, allowing the island itself to become as important as any character in the series. 

The confirmed cast includes:

Sophie Nélisse as Lucy Ashby: Best known for Heated RIvalry, Yellowjackets and The Book Thief, Nélisse plays the florist whose summer visits gradually reshape her life.

Roby Attal as Felix "Wolf" Clark: Recognized for The S** Lives of College Girls and The Haunting of Bly Manor, Attal portrays the charming man Lucy was never supposed to fall for.

Francesca Reale as Bridget Clark: Familiar to Netflix viewers from Stranger Things and Do Revenge, Reale plays Lucy's lifelong best friend.

Jordan Rodrigues as Miles Lam: Previously appeared in Lady Bird and Light as a Feather.

Jude Wilson as Zach: Joins the ensemble in a recurring role.

Natalie Brown as Christine: Known for The Handmaid's Tale.

Based on Carley Fortune's bestselling 2024 novel, the series follows Lucy Ashby, who rushes to Prince Edward Island after her best friend Bridget begins questioning her upcoming wedding. It should have been a simple trip to support a friend, but old emotions quickly resurface. Years earlier, Lucy shared an unforgettable one-night stand with Bridget's brother, Felix. 

Since then, one rule has always existed: never fall in love with him. Netflix describes the adaptation as a simmering romance unfolding across multiple summers, exploring first love, friendship, timing, and the emotional pull of a place that keeps drawing people back. The island's famous connection to Anne of Green Gables also shapes the series' nostalgic atmosphere, giving the romance an almost storybook quality. 

Netflix has not announced an official release date. The 10-episode series was greenlit in March 2026, and production is currently underway on Prince Edward Island and in Canada. With filming only recently beginning, a release is expected after post-production is complete, although Netflix has not confirmed a premiere window. 

With another bestselling Carley Fortune novel heading to the screen, Netflix continues expanding its growing library of romance adaptations that celebrate heartfelt storytelling and unforgettable settings. If the series captures even a fraction of the novel's emotional pull, it could become one of the platform's most talked about romantic dramas.
