Cinderella walked away with a prince, a glass slipper, and a happily-ever-after, while her stepsisters walked away with a reputation problem. The classic fairy tale follows a kind-hearted girl whose wicked stepfamily mistreats her until a fairy godmother sends her to a royal ball, where one lost slipper changes everything. Her stepsisters, meanwhile, become the faces of jealousy and cruelty, making Cinderella’s suffering all the more memorable.

Netflix is now dusting off the stepsisters’ tarnished reputations with Steps, whose new trailer promises to turn Cinderella’s familiar fairy tale upside down and finally let the supposed villains tell their side.

Netflix's unveils Steps' trailer

Lilith is about to learn that stealing a fairy godmother’s wand is a terrible idea, especially when the magic comes with a side of amphibian trouble. The trailer for Netflix’s Steps kicks off a wonderfully chaotic chain of events when Lilith accidentally turns her sister Margot into a frog. What begins as an attempt to crash the Royal Ball quickly becomes a full-blown fairy tale disaster.

Things get even messier when Priscilla, a scheming mean girl, seizes the opportunity to take over the kingdom. With Margot stuck in frog form and the throne in the wrong hands, Lilith has little choice but to join forces with Cinderella. Their unlikely partnership promises plenty of bickering as the pair venture through the Screaming Woods, dodge royal henchmen, and encounter biker trolls along the way.

Packed with colorful animation, musical mayhem, and fantastical creatures, the trailer gives this fractured fairy tale a lively, irreverent spin. Lilith must undo the damage caused by her magical misadventure while rescuing Margot and helping Cinderella save the kingdom. The result looks less like a graceful royal waltz and more like a madcap adventure where one disastrous spell threatens to ruin absolutely everything.

With Daniel Radcliffe also getting a great first look, Steps is stepping into the spotlight as a major Netflix milestone.

The milestone that Netflix is achieving with Steps

Beyond the magical mishaps and musical mayhem, Steps has another reason to stand out in Netflix’s crowded animation lineup. The upcoming feature is the first film produced entirely in-house by Netflix Animation Studios, marking a significant step forward for the streamer. Earlier hits such as KPop Demon Hunters, Pinocchio, and Nimona involved external animation partners.

With its vibrant CG animation and musical comedy format, Steps is also positioned as a major family release for the Thanksgiving and holiday season. Netflix is putting its own animation studio in the spotlight with a feature designed to bring fairy tale chaos to living rooms. And with Steps, the streamer is not simply reimagining Cinderella but making a milestone move in its own animation journey.
