It seems like viewers will always come across a fresh Netflix rendition of a Harlan Coben book. With 13 series in several languages based on the author's vast body of thriller novels already available, the streamer has fully committed to the best-selling author's work. And why not, as the adaptations are typically entertaining diversions with lots of bizarre turns that viewers do not bother to think too hard about while they watch.
But Netflix’s new Harlan Coben thriller slightly differs from that path.
The 8-part mystery thriller goes way deeper than the author’s usual dark themes and emerges as the worst nightmare a parent could have.

What makes Netflix’s new Harlan Coben thriller a parent's worst nightmare?
Imagine being wrongfully convicted for the m***** of your own little boy, just to find out that he has been alive all these years, and now all that remains is the burning question as to who and why. Netflix just released a new Harlan Coben adaptation, I Will Find You, which takes the audience through the pain of a father and his unrelenting quest to find the truth. The show, which features Avatar-fame Sam Worthington and Severance star Britt Lower in the main roles, appeals to the deep, haunting fear of losing a kid and having no way to save them.
The plot follows Worthington’s David Burroughs, who is currently serving his fifth year of conviction, when Rachel (Lower), his sister-in-law, comes in with evidence that suggests his son is still alive.

The unexpected revelation triggers a chain of events that involves David breaking out of prison and working with Rachel to unravel a web of lies that is far more intricate than either of them could have ever dreamed of. The trailer also mentions what David is willing to sacrifice in order to get to the truth. If this is not a parent’s worst nightmare, then what is?
In an interview, Sam Worthington talked about what clicked for him in this devastating tale of a parent’s struggle to find the truth about their child’s loss.
Sam Worthington’s biggest challenge in I Will Find You
Sam Worthington, a father of three boys, revealed to TV WEEK earlier in June how his goal for I Will Find was becoming the most "raw" picture of a fighting father. He explained how playing vulnerable and deeply troubled characters was actually not a source of trouble for him. What instead posed as a challenge for the actor was finding the fine line between Harlan Coben's drama-stemming world and the authenticity of a grieving parent.
"the hardest thing was trying to find that authentic relationship because Harlan’s world can be melodramatic and pulpy. So, we wanted to find that authenticity that the audience can cling to as we go through the craziness," he told TV WEEK.

Besides Worthington and Britt Lower, Milo Ventimiglia, a three-time Emmy nominee best recognized for his breakthrough performance in Gilmore Girls and This Is Us, is also one of the key characters in the Netflix series. Jonathan Tucker (Westworld, Kingdom), Erin Richards (Gotham), and Madeleine Stowe (Revenge) are among the supporting cast members of I Will Find You, the show that has shaped up to become any parent's worst nightmare.
