While the classic 1970s television series remains a beloved piece of cultural history, it is time for a new Little House on the Prairie show to take over the small screen. Netflix is bringing the Little House reboot years after the original show ended its run on NBC. It has been five decades since we last saw the Ingalls family, and a large portion of the internet is just waiting to meet them again.

Before heading into season 1 of the Netflix adaptation of Laura Ingalls’ eponymous book, knowing about certain important information, like the release date, cast, and plot of the show, would be helpful.

The Little House on the Prairie revival will debut on July 9, 2026, according to Netflix. Directed by Sarah Adina Smith, Julie Anne Robinson, Kat Candler, Erica Tremblay, and Sydney Freeland, the first season of the show will consist of eight episodes. According to Deadline, the first season of the show was produced in Winnipeg, Canada, between June 2025 and October 2025.

The cast seems to be stacked with some new additions to the storyline, and it can only be wondered what the plot entails for season 1 of Little House on the Prairie on Netflix.

According to Netflix, the new series is a combination of an epic survival saga, a hopeful family drama, and an American West origin story. The Little House on the Prairie reboot, according to the streamer, will be a new adaptation of Laura Ingalls Wilder's well-known semi-autobiographical Little House books, which provide a kaleidoscope of the hardships and victories of those who molded the frontier.

The first season will follow the Ingalls family's adventures after Pa chooses to relocate from Wisconsin to Independence, Kansas, based on the events in Laura Ingalls Wilder's Little House on the Prairie book. There will also be Osage characters because Wilder's third book features encounters with Native Americans in the eventually occupied area. All that remains now is the wait for the show’s release, which has already been renewed for a second season.
