Philomena Cunk has never met a subject she could not confidently misunderstand. Created by Charlie Brooker and starring Diane Morgan, the mockumentary franchise has marched through human civilization in Cunk on Earth, interrogated existentialism and quantum physics in Cunk on Life, and tackled religion, the Renaissance, artificial intelligence, nuclear weapons, and even Beyoncé’s ‘Single Ladies’ with gloriously misplaced authority.
Now, with Cunk on Cinema, Philomena Cunk is turning her questionable expertise toward filmmaking, and naturally, everybody wants to know what happens when Hollywood meets her spectacularly unconventional brain.

Mark your calendars, because Philomena Cunk is about to give cinema the sort of examination it never asked for. Cunk on Cinema premieres internationally on Netflix on November 15, 2026, while viewers in the United Kingdom and Ireland can catch it on BBC iPlayer from November 12, followed by weekly BBC Two broadcasts.
Behind this three-part mockumentary, Charlie Brooker and Diane Morgan return as creators, with Morgan also serving as an executive producer alongside Jessica Rhoades and Sam Ward. Directed by Al Campbell and produced by Pacesetter Productions for the BBC and Netflix, the series promises another round of confidently delivered nonsense, this time aimed squarely at filmmaking.
What will Cunk on Cinema about?
Hollywood, prepare for questions that no film school could possibly prepare you for. In Cunk on Cinema, Philomena Cunk sets out to investigate humanity’s love affair with movies, tracing the medium from the invention of the camera and the French New Wave of the 1960s to computer-generated imagery and the future of artificial intelligence.
Naturally, the documentary will feature Cunk interrogating industry experts with her trademark confidence and gloriously misguided curiosity, all while attempting to unravel cinema’s greatest mysteries from a seat surrounded by stale popcorn. With filmmakers, actors, critics, and other industry figures in her crosshairs, the real question is who will make it through her interviews unscathed.
Cunk on Cinema's talented cast
Diane Morgan is keeping herself busy playing confidently clueless characters, and Philomena Cunk is certainly not clocking out anytime soon. While Morgan is stealing hearts in VisionQuest, fans will be glad to know she will also be returning as her hilariously uninformed alter ego in Cunk on Cinema, where her deadpan delivery will put some of Hollywood’s biggest names through their paces.

The guest list includes Benedict Cumberbatch, explosive-action specialist Michael Bay, and film composer Daniel Pemberton, alongside veteran screenwriter Steven E. de Souza and cinematographer Seamus McGarvey. Film critics Mark Kermode and Helen O’Hara, historian Mark Cousins, and returning academics Professor Jim Al-Khalili and Professor Ashley Jackson round out the lineup, giving Cunk plenty of experts to bewilder.
