Netflix announced in November 2025 that it will be bringing the beloved HBCU Hillman College back into session with a new generation set to explore a new phase of their lives on the nostalgic college campus. A Different World sequel, set to release in September 2026, will follow Deborah Wayne, the teenage daughter of the lead characters Whitley Gilbert and Dwayne Wayne, from the 1987 show, now played by Maleah Joi Moon and Kadeem Hardison alongside others. Netflix stated that the date respects the streamer's dedication to respecting the show's history while introducing Hillman to a new audience.

Bradford Taylor, Charnele Brown as Dr Kimberly Reese Boyer, and Jada Pinkett-Smith as Lena James are among the other original cast members who will be making a comeback.
