The escapades of four friends and a loyal but jumpy dog amounted to some of the core childhood memories of generations. The iconic animated series, which debuted in 1969, went on to entertain kids for almost five decades. Despite being fifty years old, the world of Scooby-Doo still feels fresh and entertaining. Now, the nostalgia is about to hit hard with a live-action adaptation from Netflix in the works, which was announced back in March 2025. 

Netflix has teased the development of the project with the release of the first look at Mystery Inc. in the series.

Netflix revealed on Friday that Scooby-Doo: Origins, the live-action version of the animated series, has officially entered production. Additionally, the streamer dropped a big surprise and unveiled the first glimpse of the main cast, which includes Maxwell Jenkins as Fred Jones, Abby Ryder Fortson as Velma Dinkley, Tanner Hagen as Shaggy Rogers, and McKenna Grace as Daphne Blake.

The first look has pretty much everyone from the original gang, except for Scooby. But we do see a paw print on the crate behind which they all are hiding. Anyhow, Scooby-Doo: Origins, which Netflix describes as a modern retelling of the classic mystery-solving team of teenagers and their very special dog, is now filming in Atlanta, Georgia.

Talking about the creative team, Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg serve as showrunners and executive producers and joining them in production are André Nemec, Jeff Pinkner, and Adrienne Erickson for Midnight Radio. Other executive producers include Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and Leigh Redman, all producing via Berlanti Productions. Toby Haynes is also one of the executive producers who will direct the series.

Since the mystery from the cast and crew has already been lifted, the curiosity automatically shifts to the plot the live-action series will follow.

In order to solve a supernatural murder at their summer camp, friends Daphne and Shaggy collaborate with other kids and a lonely, lost Great Dane puppy in Scooby-Doo: Origins. They will set out with Scooby to solve the case that is dragging each of them into a spooky nightmare that threatens to reveal all of their secrets, together with Velma, the practical and scientific townie, and Freddy, the odd but incredibly attractive new youngster.

The series attempts to take the audience back to where it all started, giving the whole world of the series a reset to contemporary times. Netflix’s attempt to bring the origin story of Mystery Inc. to the screen seems like an attempt to bring something fresh from the Scooby-Doo universe with the same nostalgia factor.
