Quinn Shephard drew directly from her own teenage years to craft this deeply personal project. Reflecting on her early writing process, Shephard shared her experience of growing up. She initially wrote the drama in her early twenties, right after publicly coming out, which has now given rise to the upcoming release, The Body.

“It’s satirizing some of the trauma of growing up queer and repressed and the confusion around that,” she noted, as per Tudum. Years later, Shephard revisited her original draft with a fresh perspective and discovered unexpected humour within the story. Realizing the narrative worked best as a dramedy allowed her to approach heavy themes with playful dark satire.

Her revised script channels real adolescent confusion, shame, and passion into a compelling television experience.

“I think the biggest discovery was that there was so much comedy in it, which I imagine is something a lot of writers have when they revisit high school with a smidge more perspective,” she noted. The November release of The Body on Netflix brings Shephard's visually stunning and deeply personal vision to life.
