Netflix's 'Untamed' Falls Flat with Viewers with "average" Plot Twists and Clichés, Reddit Fans Disappointed

Netflix's Untamed might not be the most well-crafted thriller in its roster, but the mountains are definitely breathtaking. With the cinematography, haunting, gorgeous, and inescapable, from its stunning Yosemite setting to Eric Bana's gritty interpretation of a tormented detective, the mini-series became an instant hit. Untamed is not merely a thriller but a raw reminder that some secrets linger well after the screen goes dark. However, avid bingers think the show might have lost the plot in its woods.

Reddit conversations lit up immediately following its premiere. One fan diagnosed the emotional melee of the Untamed with a severe deficiency of depth in the storyline. While several others agreed to similar conclusions, one user pointed out that the show was undeniably "visually extremely beautiful" even though the plot was predictable and lackadaisical. Though its scenery and cinematography made it worth viewing, the plot, staying a collection of all wilderness‑murder‑mystery stereotypes throughout, threw many fans off.

Untamed arrived on Netflix on July 17, 2025, and within a few days, it was renewed for a second season. Starring Eric Bana, Lily Santiago, Rosemarie DeWitt, and Sam Neill, the six-episode detective drama revolves around a murder investigation in the woods. Comprising 42-51 minutes of suspense, thrill, and stunning beauty of nature laced with the darkest of secrets per episode, a macho special agent (Bana) tries to uncover the stereotypical mystery before fans do. However, Reddit users clearly have a winner.

When the Untamed forest's whispers reach fans before the protagonist, the internet remains disappointed.

Netflix's Untamed is too predictable to impress fans on Reddit

Netflix's Untamed shot up to the top of the charts with over 24.6 million views in the first week of its release. A solid murder mystery with visually sumptuous scenery, though it attracted thriller fans, it soon fell flat, as one Reddit user efficiently put it, "First 3 min were the best. The rest was average." The crucial point of mass disappointment was the lack of smartness in the climax. Another user pointed out that the show was okay, but rather predictable, and another guessed the "perpetrator halfway 10 minutes into the first episode." Most fans complained that the show had "no payoff" and was only ever an easy watch.

Meanwhile, some users highlighted the excessively "tropey" nature of the plot, adding that "the ending twists with the wife and the mentor were just lazy." However, besides the jaw-dropping cinematography, the exhilarating banter between Eric Bana's Kyle Turner and the rookie cop, Lily Santiago as Naya Vasquez, has also earned some brownie points for Untamed. Though several Reddit users have attacked the show with common consensus like "boring and unnecessary", "i don’t care if there’s another season," the show appealed to others who just went in for entertainment without expecting multi-layered emotional depths. To make up for its shortcomings, Netflix has expanded its thriller trove with many unique gems dabbling in cybercrime, drug cartels, psychological manipulation, and more.
