Some schoolgirls belong in detention, but the Lions might belong in a nightmare. Netflix previously announced The Body, an eight-episode teen psychological thriller and horror drama created by Quinn Shephard, known for Under the Bridge. The series follows a badly behaved group of Catholic schoolgirls called the Lions, whose membership in a competitive dance troupe sets the stage for something far more sinister.

Now, Netflix has finally unleashed the official trailer, and it reeks of the gory, terrifying horror that haunted the 2000s, promising a dance with darkness that nobody will forget.

Netflix has officially released the trailer for The Body, and Catholic school has never looked quite so close to a gateway to hell. Created by Quinn Shephard, the eight-episode teen psychological thriller follows the Lions, a badly behaved Catholic school dance troupe whose ambitions for regional glory take a devilish turn. The series premieres on November 11.

The trailer opens with an unsettling question about contacting the devil, followed by a teacher warning that summoning Lucifer would leave unmistakable signs. Enter the Lions, led by co-captains Anya and Elise, who demand that three hopeful recruits roar during tryouts. However, the real nightmare begins when veteran dancers invite newcomer Grace Franklin to a costume party.

The newly released trailer has now offered a closer look at the ritualistic initiation that turns the dance troupe's pursuit of regional victory into a full-blown horror show. After a drug-fueled ceremony invoking the Prince of Darkness, Grace begins behaving disturbingly, and the girls scramble to conceal what happened. From Elise's wicked wink during church mass to Maddie's frantic search about demonic possession, the trailer promises chaos with a distinctly old-school bite.

'The Body' on Netflix: Cast, Plot, and Release Date Revealed of Teenage Nightmares

The Body’s cast and aesthetics may steal the spotlight, but the 2000s horror revival is the real scream queen here, just as the creators teased.

The Body creator's 2000s goal

The Body is not just borrowing Catholic school uniforms and demonic rituals to scare its audience; Netflix’s upcoming horror series is reaching back to the gloriously twisted world of 2000s teen horror. With its unruly girl gangs, dark humour, religious paranoia, and sinister rituals, Quinn Shephard’s series recalls the deliciously wicked spirit of Jennifer’s Body and Jawbreaker. The Lions’ pursuit of dance glory only makes the nightmare more enticing.

Creator Quinn Shephard has openly embraced the nostalgia behind The Body, describing its tone as “gritty camp” with “a dash of Catholic horror.” Shephard has also explained that the series is a deeply personal tribute to the films that inspired her filmmaking journey, saying she made it for her teenage self. Rather than simply recycling familiar tropes, the Netflix series turns her own teenage nightmares into a deliberately wicked homage to 2000s horror.
