According to NJ, Netflix is splurging $903 million to transform the former Fort Monmouth Army base in New Jersey into one of its most advanced production destinations on the East Coast. The upcoming complex is designed to operate like a full Hollywood-style hub, complete with large support yards and dedicated trailer areas for cast and crew. Several older brick structures on the property will be renovated to serve as equipment rooms, storage facilities, and maintenance centers to keep productions running seamlessly.
Beyond its core filming infrastructure, NJ reports that the studio will also feature extensive backlot spaces crafted with grass and gravel, allowing filmmakers the flexibility to build diverse sets without leaving the property. The goal is to create a self-sufficient creative environment capable of supporting everything from prestige dramas to high-budget action titles. Once completed, the Fort Monmouth facility will include 12 soundstages, a hotel, a theatre, a cafeteria, and visitor attractions. Meanwhile, New Jersey appears to be front and center at the streaming giant of late, with one of its latest hits set in the state and filmed there.
Led by Claire Danes and Matthew Rhys, this Netflix thriller shows how real-world locations can add value to the atmosphere on screen.
