Netflix spent $587 million in cash to acquire Ben Affleck’s AI company, InterPositive, making the deal impossible to ignore. The purchase arrives as AI steadily embeds itself into entertainment. From Respeecher refining dialogue and accents in Oscar contenders such as Emilia Pérez and The Brutalist to Deepdub enabling global dubbing while preserving an actor’s voice, tone, and lip movements, Affleck's InterPositive is now cemented into the game.

Everyone was already shocked by Netflix's acquisition of Ben Affleck's AI company earlier this year, but the details were left a mystery, although mysteries are bound to be solved sooner or later.

Netflix has finally put a price tag on Ben Affleck’s mysterious AI company, InterPositive, and the number is a staggering $587 million. The figure was revealed in a securities filing made on Friday (via The Hollywood Reporter), with Netflix stating in its Form 10-Q that the March 2026 acquisition was completed as a business combination paid entirely in cash.

The filing does not name InterPositive, but the timing leaves little mystery about the acquisition. Netflix announced its deal with the company on March 5, while the same $587 million purchase price also appeared in the streaming giant’s Q1 filing in May. Affleck, meanwhile, committed to remaining involved as a senior advisor.

The eye-watering purchase arrives as Netflix increasingly embraces AI behind the scenes. During the company’s earnings call this week, Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos revealed that approximately 300 productions have used AI somewhere in their process, mostly during post-production. Suddenly, InterPositive looks less like a curious acquisition and more like a very expensive piece of the future.

Of course, with new news about Netflix and Ben Affleck's InterPositive deal, one has to dive into at least what is known about Affleck's mysterious AI company.

Into Ben Affleck's AI company

Ben Affleck’s InterPositive is what happens when a Hollywood filmmaker looks at the AI panic and quietly decides to build something more useful than a robot with screenplay aspirations. Founded by Affleck in 2022, the stealth startup developed custom AI models trained on controlled filmmaking data and a production’s own footage, teaching software to understand cinematic logic rather than merely identify a chair.

The technology targets filmmaking’s expensive little disasters, including continuity mistakes, missed framing, inconsistent lighting, background replacements, stunt-wire removal, and costly post-production work. Its models are designed to preserve the performances and visual language already created by human filmmakers, while reducing the financial pain attached to producing them, which may explain why Netflix paid $587 million in cash for InterPositive.
