3 Body Problem is all set to land on Netflix in 2026. The streamer renewed the series for a second and third season in May 2024, shortly after the debut of the first season of the series. The budget for the first season was also enormous, reportedly $20 million for each episode, for a total of $160 million out of the $640 million the streamer pledged for all three seasons. This made the series one of the most ambitious projects of the streaming giant.

However, the initial response to the series was not as expected. Less than 50 million people watched 3 Body Problem in its first seven weeks on Netflix's worldwide top 10 list. This is a poor showing for a program that commands such substantial funding and critical attention. But this did not stop the streamer from betting big on its most ambitious gamble.

Netflix reaffirmed its commitment to the project despite the lackluster ratings by renewing 3 Body Problem for two more seasons, although with fewer episodes in Season 2. With the second season releasing this year, the production of the third season is also supposed to begin this year itself.

For its second season, Netflix's popular science fiction series 3 Body Problem is bringing in two new cast members. Claudia Doumit (The Boys) and Ellie De Lange (The Serpent, Wolf Hall) have been cast as series regulars. Doumit will play Captain Van Rijn, while De Lange will play Ayla.

While the first book named The Three-Body Problem, of the popular science fiction book series Remembrance of Earth's Past by Chinese author Cixin Liu, served as the inspiration for the first season of the show, the second book, The Dark Forest, will serve as the basis of the upcoming season.
