Netflix Sets March Release Date For Brazilian Historical Drama 'Radioactive Emergency'

Netflix presents Radioactive Emergency, which tells the harrowing true story of Brazil's most deadly radiological disaster through the framework of a limited series. Netflix hosts the series for a worldwide audience on its platform and has set a spring release date. The series revisits the Goiânia accident of 1987, when stolen radioactive material exposed hundreds of people to dangerous contamination.

Recollecting a story of human error, science, and perseverance that still resonates today, the Brazilian miniseries drops soon on Netflix worldwide.

Netflix has announced that Radioactive Emergency (original title: Emergência Radioativa) will premiere on March 18, 2026. The drama chronicles the devastating Goiânia Cesium-137 accident, which began when scrap theives uncovered a radiotherapy device at an abandoned hospital and dismantled it, unknowingly releasing a highly radioactive substance into the community. 

Authorities including scientists and doctors and emergency personnel worked to control the hazardous material which changed hands between containers. They strived to protect the lives of residents who suffered from radiation exposure in a race against time and science to reverse a tragedy beyond human imagination.

The series created by Gustavo Lipsztein showcases both the disastrous consequences and the courageous actions taken by the emergency response teams. Produced by Caio Gullane and Fabiano Gullane, with Caio Gullane, Fabiano Gullane, Pablo Torrecillas, and Ana Saito as executive producers, each emotion and nuanced tension is brought to life by a stellar cast.

Radioactive Emergency showcases prominent Brazilian actors including Johnny Massaro (God Save the King) who plays Márcio and Paulo Gorgulho (The Movie of My Life) takes on the role of Orenstein. The series also features Tuca Andrada (Ways of the Heart), Buksass Kabengele (Pacified), Ana Costa (Maradona: Blessed Dream), Alan Rocha (I’m Still Here), and Marina Merlino (3%).
