Netflix Renews Fan Favorite 'The Night Agent' for Season 4

A few weeks ago, on February 19, the third season of The Night Agent was released on Netflix. Riding high on the success of its two precursors, season 3 debuted in the second spot on the most popular list, just behind Bridgerton. The hype of the third season has also catapulted seasons one and two of The Night Agent to Netflix's weekly top 10 following its release.

While the latest season is still out there winning over the audience once again, there is a major update on the show’s future that Netflix just revealed.

Agent Peter Sutherland (Gabriel Basso) will not be stopping anytime soon and is set to jump straight into action after the events of season 3, following Netflix's announcement on X to renew the show for a fourth season. He just finished an incredible assignment in season 3 that took him all over the world, tracking stolen financial intelligence and unraveling intricate conspiracies.

He is now supposed to be back with another high-stakes mission at a different location.

"It’s been a wild ride filming The Night Agent in five countries across three continents to this point, and we’re so thrilled that the adventures of Peter Sutherland will continue into Season 4,” said series creator, executive producer, and showrunner Shawn Ryan. This is good news amidst the third season’s struggles to hold on to its exorbitant viewership seen in the previous seasons, albeit becoming the strongest instalment.

Many were taken aback by the news as Deadline revealed that season 3 of The Night Agent had 8.4 million views during its premiere week, but dropped 40% of its audience from season 2. Nonetheless, 13.9 million people watched season 2. When it debuted in 2023, Season 1 had the largest opening for the show, with 168.7 million hours watched in its first week, or over 21 million views.

With this, the question that comes to mind is what the fourth season will do differently to right this wrong.

New strategy for The new Night Agent

Season 4 of The Night Agent will be shot in Los Angeles, which is a significant change. The production is moving west after filming Season 1 in Canada and Seasons 2 and 3 in New York and other overseas locations, such as Thailand, Turkey, and the Dominican Republic. Shawn Ryan claims that the season will examine a world that exists in the Los Angeles area at a far higher level than New York.

Also, we might get to see Peter partnering up with a new agent. In the season 3 finale, Agent Mosley (Albert Jones) was teased as a candidate when he asked for a partner. But according to Ryan, Peter's new partner would be a new character that has never been seen before on the show.

Most importantly, season 4 is expected to challenge the rationale behind the Night Action program itself, following seasons of largely adhering to the regulations.

The Night Agent is set for a subtle revamp for the fourth installment, and fans can find comfort in the fact that the show is attempting to break patterns now with a new approach and a new location for season 4. Whether these changes are going to work or not is a different, yet exciting matter altogether.
