Instead of chasing $31.5 million, contestants will battle for a $2 million payday by building their Monopoly empire.

Netflix is rolling the dice on Monopoly, because apparently buying imaginary property was not dramatic enough without a camera crew and a $2 million prize waiting at the finish line. Deadline first reported that Studio Lambert’s The Traitors producer won the high-stakes production race, defeating nearly 50 companies desperate to turn cardboard chaos into television gold.
The series, produced by Studio Lambert and Hasbro Entertainment, will transform Monopoly from a tabletop battle into a full-scale competition arena. Netflix has already begun casting for the show, which is scheduled to premiere next year. Twelve contestants will enter a fully realized Monopoly Town Square, where every deal could create a fortune or trigger a downfall.

The players will begin on equal footing, but that balance will disappear quickly once the competition begins as they fight for the $2 million prize that Deadline reported about. Instead of simply collecting colorful properties, contestants must negotiate, strategize, and accumulate everything they can before bankruptcy sends them home. Every decision, every roll, and every risky move could separate a future tycoon from the next eliminated player.
The executive producing team includes Nia Yemoh, Tim Harcourt, Jack Burgess, Stephen Lambert, and Kim Murphy for Studio Lambert, alongside Gabriel Marano and Zachary Edwin for Hasbro Entertainment. The project follows Netflix’s agreement with Hasbro for Monopoly rights, making the game-inspired series a major priority in the streamer’s unscripted lineup.
But Monopoly is only the first move in Netflix’s Hasbro takeover, as the streamer expands its game empire along with a live TV takeover, with a reality competition based on the mystery-filled classic Clue.

Netflix is not stopping at turning Monopoly into a high-stakes empire-building battle, as the streamer is also bringing Clue into the reality competition arena with a real-life whodunit twist.
