Netflix is really doubling down on its efforts to push as many sports documentaries, especially related to football, as possible this year. It might have something to do with the FIFA World Cup 2026 kicking off in a few days. The streaming giant is looking to capitalize on the soccer momentum caused by the massive tournament. Documentaries like Ronaldinho: The One and Only, USA 94: Brazil’s Return to Glory, and Liverpool’s Miracle of Istanbul has already been presented to football fans’ fancy. Now Netflix is ready to add one more to the list.

Netflix has announced a José Mourinho documentary due release this year.

The renowned Portuguese coach José Mourinho is the subject of the upcoming Netflix Original sports documentary Mourinho, which is produced by John Battsek (The Deepest Breath; WHAM!) and directed by Joe Pearlman (Lewis Capaldi: How I'm Feeling Now). At some point in 2026, Netflix will air a documentary about the fabled "Chosen One."

One of the best football managers of the twenty-first century, José Mourinho has led some of the largest teams in the world and won championships all over Europe. When Mourinho appeared in the Netflix series The Playbook: A Coach's Rules for Life, he was already the focus of a documentary.

Mourinho has been a formidable force throughout his 26-year career. In 2004, he stunned everyone by upsetting FC Porto to win the Champions League, breaking Chelsea's 50-year league title drought, completing a treble with Inter Milan, winning three trophies in a season with Manchester United, and ending Roma's 14-year trophy drought. As seen by his trophyless seasons with Tottenham Hotspur and Fenerbahçe, Mourinho's magnetism and star power make him the center of attention even when he is not winning.

The iconic football figure has had quite a career as can be seen above, an it will make anyone curious as to how the makers are planning to cover his journey in one documentary.

With in-depth interviews with José Mourinho, the documentary will go deeply into his life and career thus far, shedding light on the man behind the "Chosen One" persona. Interviews with athletes he has coached and other coaches he has encountered over his career will also be included in the documentary.

The documentary series will give fans a chance to retrospect on José Mourinho's career thus far, as the manager is now expected to join Real Madrid.
