Netflix’s New Animated Feature 'Charlie vs. the Chocolate Factory' to Be Voiced by Taika Waititi and Kit Connor

Roald Dahl's classic story, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, offers much more than just a fanciful yarn about a poor boy who gets a chance to visit the world's most famous and secretive chocolate factory. The themes it explores about morals, the corrupting influence of greed, the value of family, and the everlasting strength of kindness and imagination are something that make it more than a kids' story.
This is the reason why it has been adapted several times into a big-screen experience. The most recent iteration was Wonka, which explored the origins of the fabled chocolatier. Netflix is now gearing up for an animated version of the original story with a slightly contemporary take titled Charlie vs. the Chocolate Factory.
The new animated feature has roped in Kit Conner and Taika Waititi to lend their voices to the beloved characters.

Taika Waititi and Kit Connor board Netflix’s Charlie vs. the Chocolate Factory
Netflix is set to add a modern take on Roald Dahl’s celebrated literary piece in an animated style, starring Kit Conner and Taika Waititi in lead roles. The Heartstopper breakout star will play the newly added protagonist, Charlie Paley, while the famed director of Thor: Ragnarok and Jojo Rabbit will provide the voice of Willy Wonka in the Charlie vs. The Chocolate Factory set for a 2027 release.
“I’m so excited to enter the wonderful world of Wonka,” said Connor, expressing his delight over boarding the project, as per Netflix Tudum.
He further added that the early concept art and the directors' vision for the movie pulled him into the project. According to him, they captured the 'heart and spirit' that made the original narrative so memorable while infusing it with something so new and distinctive. He believes that the story is a really entertaining depiction of the London that he is familiar with.
"Our directors, Jared and Elaine, have a bold vision befitting this new adventure whilst remaining sympathetic to the legacy, and I'm thrilled to play my part in bringing Willy Wonka to life in animated form,” Waititi said.
The film, which is directed by Jared Stern (The LEGO Batman Movie) and Elaine Bogan (Trollhunters: Tales of Arcadia), promises a creative new interpretation of the well-known universe thanks to the animation genius of Sony Pictures Imageworks, the studio that produced the Oscar-winning KPop Demon Hunters and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Waititi will also join the creative team as an executive producer, while Timothy Yoo (Green Eggs and Ham) and Academy Award winner Aron Warner (Shrek) are producing.
While the prospect of Waititi as Willy Wonka seems so appealing, the only concern is how this rendition is going to be different than its predecessors.
Time jump and a new Charlie in Netflix’s Charlie vs. the Chocolate Factory
The new story in Charlie vs. the Chocolate Factory takes place a few years after the original story. Since the Golden Ticket competition, Willy Wonka has been incarcerated (in a real prison, just to be clear) for the crime of transforming a youngster into a blueberry. After serving his sentence, Wonka returns to his factory with the intention of bringing his trademark sweetness back to a world full of bitterness.

However, a teenage Charlie Paley, a new rendition of the sweet Charlie Bucket, and his pals stand in his way. This next generation of "rotten" kids is facing eviction, so they plan to break into the factory, steal a valuable Wonka Bar, just to save their homes, but are likely going to get plunged into a chocolatey situation. The story looks good, the main leads look good, and Netflix and Sony are at the helm of affairs, so that is good as well. Now, all that remains is to wait for its release in 2027.
