Netflix is set to close one of the most iconic eras. In the last few years, the streaming platform has made several meaningful partnerships to bring some of the best content to its audience. Much like with Shonda Rhimes and Dan Levy, Netflix also has a deal with the notable director who executive-produced the Netflix original show House of Cards, which ran for six seasons.

After an impressive run with shows and films, the streaming platform will soon be preparing to bid goodbye to the mastermind.

Back in 2020, Netflix signed Fight Club director David Fincher to a four-year deal. The director is famous for his films Se7en, Fight Club, Zodiac, The Social Network, and Gone Girl. As reported by Bloomberg, the director will not be renewing his contract when it expires later in 2027. 

During their partnership, the director has made three films for the streaming platform. Fincher directed Mank, which is a biopic of Herman J. Mankiewicz. The 2020 film earned 10 Academy Award nominations and won for Best Production Design and Best Cinematography.

Later, in 2023, the director came out with the action thriller The K*****, which is based on a French graphic novel series of the same name. His third movie is The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth. It is the sequel to Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and will get a brief theatrical release before arriving on the streaming platform. So, as Bloomberg reported, 2027 will be the end of an iconic partnership between Fincher and Netflix.

The director is one of the renowned names in Hollywood, well known for his talent and dedication to perfection. And his ambition is evident in his efforts to shoot every scene perfectly for his films.

The Social Network remains one of the most memorable films in David Fincher’s resume. But it would not have been possible without his rigorous pursuit of perfection. Andrew Garfield, on The SmartLess podcast, recalled that for one scene in which a laptop is smashed, the crew needed about 30 laptops to get the shot right.

"It was 30 laptops smashed. 30 laptops," Garfield said.

This was because Fincher wanted the perfect take for the movie. And he has shown the same dedication time and again throughout his career. While the director will undoubtedly take on new roles and projects in the future, his decision not to renew his contract with Netflix is indeed the end of an era.
